Pot o' Gold was radio's first big money giveaway program. The program kept so many listeners at home and away from the movies that some theater owners offered an $1000 prize to anyone who was called while attending the movies. The first Wheel of Fortune was used in this National NBC radio show. Watch Now! Youtube video on the Horace Heidt channel. It's a great Christmas treat 🎄

Audie Murphy an American hero born in Kingston, Texas, became the most decorated combat soldier of World War II, earning every military combat award for valor, including the prestigious Medal of Honor. Murphy’s journey didn’t end on the battlefield. After the war, Audie transitioned to a successful acting career, becoming a Hollywood icon and even portraying himself in the film "To Hell and Back."

Horace Heidt's Swift Show Wagon toured the United States in 1955, with each show saluting a different state and featuring notable figures from that state. This episode honoring Texas featured Audie Murphy as a guest star, alongside other talented newcomers from across the country. The young lady who introduced the show was Reita Green. Known for having two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Horace is credited with pioneering the first traveling televised talent show.

In 1955 Swift and company signed up Horace Heidt Sr. to do the Swift network television show "The Swift Show Wagon". Traveling throughout the United States, Horace Heidt saluted a state each week and showcased stars who were born in that state. One of his favorite recitations was "What is America? ". The piece spelled out letter by letter the word AMERICA. It is great to be reminded of this wonderful country that we live in. This video is performed by Horace Heidt Jr.

One of the most special attractions at the legendary Hoarce Heidt Estates is its 18 hole par 3 golf course. Designed and built by band leader Horace Heidt who was a scratch golfer. While entertaining throughout the world Heidt played at many of the world's most prominent courses. So he named each green after well known par 3 holes. For instance green number 1 is patterned after green number 17 at Pebble Beach Monterey, CA. Green number 5 is patterned after green number 16 at the Masters - Augusta National, in Augusta, GA. Green number 17 is patterened after number 11 Carnoustie, in Carnoustie, Scotland. It's not surprising to learn that par 3 green number 18 was especially designed by Horace Heidt and is called the Horace Heidt Special. Refer to the picture of the design of the course. So while visiting the museum at the Horace Heidt Estates don't forget to check out our championship par 3 golf course.

The story of the man whose career inspired the movie, “Pot o’ Gold,” starring Jimmy Stewart and Paulette Goddard.

Horace Heidt, Sr., brilliant musician/bandleader/radio and television host, was the first person to have a national radio show giving money away! This was done by spinning a giant wheel, each time landing on a telephone book number, then page number, then number on a page to count down to the winner’s telephone number. People all over America sat by their radios to listen for the winning name, and the winner received $1,000! That was a huge amount in the 1940’s.

Horace Heidt Big Band Star-Maker is a beautiful, coffee-table book with wonderful stories and over 400 photographs, taken over a lifetime of celebrated music, amateur talent shows, concerts, fabulous entertainers, overseas tours for our troops, and of his cherished family, as well as photos and stories of his great business and community influences!
