During Sunday dinner, my sister-in-law looked me straight in the eyes and said I was “too old” to become a mother.
Then she smiled at my mother-in-law and promised, “Don’t worry. I’ll give you the grandchildren you deserve.”
Everyone expected me to stay silent.
Instead, I calmly reached into my handbag and placed a cream-colored envelope on the table.
She grabbed it, thinking it was another fertility bill.
“Open it,” I said.
The moment she read the first page, her smile disappeared.
But the adoption decree inside wasn’t even the most shocking document.
The second page revealed that $386,000 had been taken from the family trust—money supposedly meant for future grandchildren.
And the money had gone to a company owned by HER.
Then she looked at her husband and whispered something that made the entire family freeze.
Just as she tried to leave, the doorbell rang.
