My Cousin Wore My Mom's Wedding Dress That She Was Saving For Me To Her Own Wedding Without Asking.
I am 24 years old. My mom died when I was 16, car accident, 8 years ago. She was 45. She left me her wedding dress, 1980s lace, beautiful, in box, with note, "For my daughter, for your wedding day, love you forever, Mom."
Forever? 8 years I kept dress in closet, never opened, waiting for my wedding.
I am engaged now, 24, fiancé Ben, 26, wedding next year, May, I was going to wear mom's dress, alter to my size, feel mom with me.
My cousin, Sarah, is 26, my mom's sister's daughter. She got engaged 4 months ago, wedding was last Saturday, 3 days ago.
Sarah knew about mom's dress, I told her, this is my mom's dress, for my wedding, priceless, note says for my daughter.
Note? For my daughter, not cousin.
Last year, Sarah came to my house, saw box, asked, can I see dress, I said okay, she opened, tried on, said, oh it fits me perfect, can I borrow for my wedding, just for day, then give back.
Borrow? My mom's wedding dress, for my daughter, note, borrow for her wedding before mine?
I said, Sarah, no, this is my mom's dress, for me, for my wedding, she saved for me, note says for my daughter, I am daughter, not you, I waited 8 years.
Waited 8 years since mom died?
She said, but your wedding is next year, mine is in 4 months, you are not using it now, so I can use first, then you use, sharing is caring.
Sharing? My dead mom's wedding dress, for my daughter?
I said no.
She told my aunt, my mom's sister. Aunt said, let Sarah wear dress, your mom would want someone to wear it, it sits in closet for 8 years, waste, Sarah is family too.
Waste? My mom's dress in closet waiting for my wedding waste?
I said no again, locked closet.
Last Saturday, I went to Sarah's wedding, bridesmaid, forced by family, I sat in second row, waiting for bride entrance.
Music started, door opened, Sarah walked in, wearing my mom's wedding dress, my mom's 1980s lace dress, with note for my daughter.
My mom's dress? On my cousin at her wedding without asking?
I froze, couldn't breathe, mom's dress on someone else, 8 years I saved.
I stood up and screamed, that is my mom's dress, my mom's, for my daughter, you stole it?
Stole? How she got?
Everyone gasped, Sarah cried, said, your aunt gave me key to your house while you were at work, I took dress, it fits perfect, I knew you would say no because you are selfish, but your mom would want me to wear it, not rot in closet.
Aunt gave key to my house while I was at work to take my dead mom's wedding dress for her daughter's wedding without asking?
My aunt said, I gave Sarah dress, your mom is my sister, so dress is half mine, and you are too young to appreciate vintage, Sarah is older, more mature, she deserves it.
Half hers? My mom's dress for my daughter, note, half hers?
Sarah said, plus I altered it, cut it, made it strapless, modern, better, your mom's 1980s sleeves ugly, I fixed it.
Cut it? Altered? Strapless? My mom's 1980s lace sleeves, cut, for her wedding?
My mom's dress, 1980s lace sleeves, original, she cut sleeves off, made strapless, cut length, dyed veil pink.
Dyed veil pink?
I ran to Sarah, tried to pull dress, she screamed, my wedding, don't ruin my wedding.
Ruin her wedding? She wore my dead mom's wedding dress that she stole from my locked closet with aunt's key and cut sleeves off?
Her husband, Mike, pushed me, said, leave, you are jealous, you have mom's dress in closet for 8 years not using, Sarah using, you should be happy dress gets used.
Happy? My mom died, dress for my daughter, cut strapless?
I left wedding crying, went home, closet open, box empty, note gone, she took note too.
Note gone? For my daughter, love you forever, Mom, gone?
Sarah posted photos yesterday, Instagram, wearing my mom's dress, cut strapless, pink veil, caption, my dream vintage dress, thanks to my aunt, my mom's sister, for letting me wear my aunt's dress, my aunt would be so happy I wore it.
Her aunt? My mom? Would be happy she stole dress from locked closet with key from sister and cut sleeves off?
Now family says I am as***le for making scene at Sarah's wedding and demanding my mom's wedding dress back after she altered it and cut it and it won't fit me now anyway.
Won't fit? She cut it, altered, ruined, my mom's dress for my daughter, ruined?
Aunt says I should let Sarah keep dress because she already wore it and altered it, and I can buy new dress for my wedding next year, not dead woman's old dress.
Dead woman's old dress? My mom's last gift, for my daughter?
Am I the as***le for calling the police on my cousin for stealing my late mother's wedding dress that she was saving for me and wearing it to her own wedding after I said no?
