With 111 days left in the year, if I wanted to win my first government contract, this is exactly what I would do:

1. Pick 3-4 FSCs and only focus on these
2. Find 4-5 MFGs to work with
3. Work through the RFQs and use a tool like www.govscrsper.com to sort through the noise
4. Send out 15-20 RFQs per day and get back pricing
5. Bid on 15-20 RFQs per day

111 days left. That’s 16 weeks. Let’s do 320 bids. LETS GO!

You’re probably bidding on RFQs that you have almost no chance of winning. Here’s how to spot them…

About 20% of all DLA RFQs are Indefinite Delivery Cintracts. Five year contracts locked in at a specific price.

Problem is the cost to make the part will change - so how do you protect yourself?

Don’t bid on IDC which start with a PR of 100 and focus on one time deliveries with a PR starting with 700 or 701.

Those RFQ numbers you keep typing into the excel spreadsheet are not random! Here’s what each part means…

Also, if you’re still using excel to track your RFQs… why?!
Check out www.govscraper.com and go through RFQs quicker and bid more often.

Breaking News coming out of the DoW…
CMMC is officially suspended (60 days). They sited the compliance barriers and added cost to small and medium size businesses. Watch to understand what you need to know moving forward…

There are TWO phone numbers to remember. TWO Lifelines you’ll eventually need. Write these down:

DFAS - (800) 756-4571 for invoicing issues
DLA Service Desk - (877) 352-2255 for post-shipment problems.

Safe these numbers and you’ll know where to go when problems arise.

The difference between ORIGIN and DESTINATION can cost you THOUSANDS! Let me explain…

Three places on a DLA contract where you’ll see origin or destination. Here’s what they mean.
→ Origin = our location
→ Destination = their location

Inspection Origin = DCMA comes to you
Inspection Destination = inspected when it arrives

But the one that trips people up?
→ FOB Origin = government takes ownership at your location. They pay shipping.

→ FOB Destination = government takes ownership at their location. You pay shipping.
FOB Destination can get expensive fast, especially with heavy items or pallets.

Most DLA contracts are FOB Origin. But always check before you bid.

In government contracting, you speak two languages.
The DLA speaks NSN. Your vendors speak part numbers. You’re the interpreter.

Here’s what you need to know:
→ NSN sits at the top of the hierarchy
→ Multiple part numbers fall under one NSN
→ DLA sees them all as the same item
→ You can shop around to any vendor under that NSN

Take the NSN. Translate to part number. Get a quote. Translate back to a bid.
That’s the game.

CMMC Level 1 isn’t the insurmountable wall that everyone makes it out to be! If you handle Federal Contract Information - that’s contracts, POs, delivery schedules, proposals, etc - Level 1 will apply to you!

Here’s what most people don’t realize…

You just need to comply with a simple 15 questions and once your company affirms that your company complies, you click submit and you’re done.

If you do the basics like have a unique login for every user, have an antivirus on your computer, shred old hard drives, visitors to your location logging in, you’re good to go!
