Social media is a place where scammers can get to anyone and we have to do everything in our power to save the children and young adults who constantly use social media. Social Media Victims Law Center

I apologize for my absence, but I am happy to finally have the proper amount of time to dedicate to this endeavor! While I was away I heard multiple people joking about an attempted scam. I greatly appreciate that they are aware of scams and they know one when they see one. Unfortunately scams are getting more and more sophisticated and I hope none of these people end up having a horrible experience that makes them truly understand the danger. Maybe one day we can make a big enough impact to make scams and scammers irrelevant.

Big news is on the way soon!

First and foremost there is nothing funny or fair about blackmail, but some scammers may make it seem like it is. When I was being blackmailed they made it seem like what they were demanding from me was a deal compared to previous victims. What they wanted was $2500 and you can compare that all you want, but that’s still a lot of money! There are not fair deals in blackmail, it’s just one horrible person trying to steal your well earned money. Please be safe!

Scammers have to make their fake social media profiles appear as authentic as possible. One thing that has been very useful for them is making pictures where the person is holding up a piece of paper with a note on it. If a “celebrity” is communicating with you directly and they are holding up a note in lots of the pictures they sent, then that is a scammer! As real as it may look, it is far from authentic! Please be safe!

In this day and age of technology, it is easier than ever to pretend to be someone you’re not. Scammers have been using this technology to their advantage. They trick their victims by pretending to be someone famous. They take their time to build a virtual “relationship” and then when it’s at the peak, they tell the victim they are in dire need of money. Scammers can steal hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in these instances. No celebrity will ever reach out and ask for money! Please be careful!

Scams come in all sizes and sometimes they happen when someone claims to have an item for sale online. Selling online has become the new normal which can make life easy, but it also offers people new avenues to scam customers. It is very important to go through the proper channels when completing an online purchase!

Lots of scammers get to their victims by claiming to be reputable companies trying to help them. They will state that the only way you can fix an issue (which doesn’t really exist) is by using up their life savings to purchase gift cards. Once the scammers receive those redemption codes, the victim’s money is gone. No legitimate organization is going to demand that you buy gift cards with your life savings!

If you know that the person calling you is trying to scam you, it can be very enjoyable to waste their time! It won’t stop them completely, but you can slow them down for a little while!
