Dee, who plays Andi’s mom real life son Shane Freeman shares tribute to his mom 🕊️❤️
He shared:
“April 2nd, 2026, I lost my mother, Dee Freeman.
Last week, a doctor asked her how she was doing, and she said, ‘Can’t complain. Doesn’t do you any good on the other side.’ That’s my mama. Once a Marine, always a Marine.
At her bedside, I’ve been surrounded by her friends and the people who loved her, and seeing how many lives she touched has meant more than I can put into words. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and shared what she meant to you.
She was an actress on screen and stage for over 30 years. It’s how she shared herself with the world. A two-time NAACP Image Award nominee, she poured her heart into uplifting Black stories and Black artists. She created her one-woman show, The Poison G*n, telling her story, and was working to turn it into a novel.
Even after her diagnosis, she was still rehearsing lines for a play. In her final days, she had to step away from filming the next season of Sistas. Acting wasn’t just a job—it was who she was.
I don’t have the words to describe what I’ve lost. My solace comes from knowing it hurts this much because she was such an incredible mother and person. There was never enough time, but I was always close with my mother. No words were left unsaid, and I have over thirty years of love to carry forward.
There will never be another Dee Freeman. But what she gave to the people around her doesn’t disappear. She lived fearlessly and brought light everywhere she went.
