Bye bye orange undertones👇🏽 After stripping a piece of furniture to raw wood, you will often be left with orange undertones. Getting rid of them is easy with a little paint wash! Steps (before video) 1. Strip old finish 2. Sand using 120/150 grit then 220 Steps (during video) 1. Paint wash (1:8 white paint : water) - brush on, let sit for 2-ish min and wipe off with lint-free cloth. You can use any white paint (flat or satin sheen) Steps (after video) 1. Topcoat

DETAILS👇🏽 I love Pottery Barn’s Folsom console, but not its $800 price tag. So I made my own out of two 2” x 12” x 8’ boards. The best part is it took just a few hours and cost less than $50. What do you think? PROCESS • cut boards to size at 45 degree angle (mine are 58” x 34”) (if you don’t have a saw to easily cut 45 degree angles, you can absolutely cut them at 90 degree angles) • added liquid nails and screwed boards together (pocket holes will get you a stronger hold) • sanded with 220 grit • tan wash (1 part Algonquin : 5 parts water (brush on, let sit for 1-2 min and wipe excess) • seal with topcoat • mist with water and brush on glaze then wipe excess * Brush on flat poly topcoat

Why strip before sanding👇🏽 Before paint washing this dresser, the old paint needed to be removed. Although you can sand it off without using a stripper first, it is faster, easier and safer to strip paint rather than sand it. Especially when the stripper is safe for people, pets and plants. 1. Brush on a liberal amount of GreenEZ stripper to cover surface. 2. Cover with plastic wrap. 3. Let sit for 2+ hours 4. Remove plastic wrap and spray with GreenEZ finish cleaner 5. Scrape with putty knife 6. Spray with finish cleaner and remove residue with 0000 steel wool 7. Wipe with rag GreenEZ stripper and cleaner are linked in my bio (discount code ShellyChic10)(link earns commissions)

HERE👇🏽 I end up at yard sales while walking my dog most weekends. Luckily most people take Venmo now (as I didn’t have my wallet or car). I bought 6 or 7 pieces there that morning including this handsome, albeit dated, dresser. If you have a solid wood piece with little to no damage to the wood, I’d recommend paint washing. Not only is the finish beautiful, but profit margins are also great because you only need a few spoonfuls of paint. If you missed the process reel, I stripped it, then sanded it. I bleached it, did the paint wash and then sealed it.

Here👇🏽 This little table just got a major makeover. It was caked in white paint circa the “shabby chic” era so the first thing I did was strip it all off. After sanding, I primed and painted the top then stained those gorgeous spindle legs. ✨Stripper Kit: (linked in bio) (discount code: ShellyChic10 ✨Sander (discount code: ShellyChic) ✨Primer and paint in Midnight Cyprus (linked in bio discount code: shellychic) *links earn commissions

HERE👇🏽 This outdated dresser was begging for an update. The rusty red undertones had to go, as did the base and the hardware. After cutting off the curves, I built a new base out of scrap wood, gave it a fresh, light and modern paint job using Retique It White Wash followed by their Barnwood stain. Then I added some gorgeous brushed brass pulls. What do you think?

HERE👇🏽 The faux-wood Pottery Barn-inspired look is so popular right now. It is not hard to do with a little practice and it does NOT have to be done on solid wood. So grab that old piece of IKEA furniture you were finally going to get rid of and give it a try! 1. Sand with 120/150 grit than 220 2. Prime 3. Scuff sand with 220 grit sanding sponge 4. Paint: this is Alpaca Blanket (Behr) but you can use any light tan or dark creamy color (the darker the base, the darker the finish). 5. Paint on thin layer of glaze in small section using chip brush (I used java brown by rust-oleum but it’s sold out in a lot of places. I linked another glaze I’ve used that works just as well.) 6. While the glaze is wet, brush back with a deck brush to smooth, followed by a broom. (I’ve started using the little blue broom more than the large one in the video.) 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you get the look you’re going for 8. Drill hardware holes 9. Brush on top coat All the supplies are linked in my Amazon store (in my bio). Links earn commission. I learned this technique from so go check her out!

Details HERE👇🏽 I used to hate stripping paint off furniture. It never worked and left me with a huge goopy mess. Then I realized HOW to do it and with WHAT and stripping paint has never been easier (or SAFER)! With the right tools, the old paint comes right off, leaving only that gorgeous wood grain, and with no toxic chemicals or fumes. STEPS 1. Brush on a liberal amount of stripper to cover the entire surface. 2. Cover with plastic wrap. 3. Let sit for 2+ hours 4. Remove plastic wrap and spray with finish cleaner 5. Scrape with putty knife 6. Spray with finish cleaner and remove residue with 0000 steel wool 7. Wipe with rag GreenEZ Furniture Stripper Kit is linked in my bio (discount code: ShellyChic10).
