Teen's Sharp Words Expose Family Divide, Sparks Homeschooling Debate

Backstory: my mom died when I (14f) was little. She had been sick for a while and before she died she set everything up so I would go to her best friend, Katie. My uncle, Nick, fought for custody of me after my mom died because he thought I should be with family. Katie has custody of me and adopted me but I spend one weekend a month with Nick and his family, although lately it’s been a little less because of competitions. The visits to Nicks house aren’t court ordered Katie just wants me to have a connection with my bio family

Nick and Katie are very different parents. Katie and her husband are both doctors. Nick is a cop and his wife is a preschool teacher.

I’ve been in private school my entire life and my school is 1-2 years ahead of the local public schools, which are also some of the best in the area and are ahead of the public schools in other areas. Nick and his wife homeschool their kids (10, 14, 16), mostly for political reasons.

I do competitive cheerleading through my school and I do competitive dance through a studio. I also play piano I used to do clarinet but I just quit to have more time for cheer. Nicks kids go to church youth group and youth choir and don’t do any other activities. Katie also makes me earn my allowance. I have to work and she’ll match whatever I make at the end of the month and Nick just gives his kids money whenever.

I...

WIBTAH for not inviting my aunt and her kids to my wedding after she sent texts about my wedding party?

Would I be an a__hole for not inviting my aunt and cousins to my wedding?

I 24(f) recently got engaged and just asked my bridal party to stand in my wedding. I chose to have only 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. I asked 4 sisters and one cousin to stand on my behalf. My own best friend is not standing in the wedding. I have another cousin (26f) that I was around a lot more as a kid, but we were never close. My sister (29f) had that cousin stand in her wedding 4 years ago, and even then we were a lot closer but I still was not close enough to want her to stand in my wedding.

I asked my bridesmaids to stand and some of them posted it online, as they do. Apparently this is how my other cousin found out. My aunt, her mother, texted my mom a lengthy text about how devastated my cousin was that she was not going to be in my wedding, especially because I did not send her a text telling her she was not before it was online. I thought about texting her ahead of time, but felt it would be mean to send someone a message of the reasons I didn’t want them to stand in my wedding. My mom told me because we talked about this happening, because this family has always felt entitled to things and people.

I ended up texting my aunt that it was my choice and that it was not personal, or ill-intended. I even told her that my...

AITA for Consistently Avoiding the Laundry Chore?

AITA? My (27m) husband and (261) have been living together for about 3 years. We have always had a basket in the bathroom for dirty laundry. The entire time we've been living together I'm the one who has always done laundry. When the basket gets full I take it to the laundry room and wash everything that's in it. For the past several months my husband has started leaving his dirty clothes mostly in a pils in the floor is the bedroom instead of putting them in the basket
We've had conversations about this several times and the says he'll make sure to start putting his clothes in the basket, but nothing has really changes. This morning he made a comment about how he has to go to work in dirty clothes Including dirty socks and underwear. I didn't say anything because I've washed the clothes in the basket and was caught up on laundry.
Then he asks me if i could wash his clothes for him so he doesn't have to go to work in dirty clothes. I laid him that I'll wash his clothes when he puts them in the Baskat. He got mad and said was petty for not washing his laundry and that he doesn't understand why I can't take 30 more seconds to pick up all his clothes off the floor and wash them
I told him that if it was so easy then why couldn't he take 30 seconds to pick them up and do it and that wasn't this mom and I'm not picking up his dirty clothes off the floor...

WIBTA if I left my SO while he is in prison?

A bit of context: I have been with my SO for 5 years. I am now 22 and he’s 25.

We got engaged last year. Around the same time, he got sent to prison for getting involved with drugs. He can’t afford a good lawyer, so his sentence ended up to be 10+ years. I was devastated but I knew that I wanted to support him. I told him that I’m going to be there for him no matter what and I’m not going anywhere

Things are changing now. I don’t look forward to speaking to him anymore, he asks for money all the time and I think I may be falling out of love with him. I’m close with his family, and his parents let me know almost daily how lucky he is that he has me. I know it’s going to hurt him and them if I break up with him. I feel extremely guilty about this

Would I be an a__hole if I end things with my SO?

AITA for getting my stepsister expelled from school?

I'm not for the States, and my english is not good, so please bear with me

I(17f) have a stepsister Fiona(17f). We go to the same school and are both on the sport team. The team also has a south Asian girl, lets call her Rose(17). Rose and I have been close since we were little. Fiona doesn't really like Asians, so when Rose joined the team last year, as a substitute, she wasn't very happy. She didn't say anything to Rose back then, she just ignored her. Whenever Rose tried to interact, Fiona just gave her one word answers so eventually she stopped trying.

Recently, Fiona got kicked out of the team for unspotrsman-like behavior, I don't know what she did as it was between her and our coach, but she is now very upset as she lost her chance at a college scholarship. Rose now plays Fiona's position. She(Fiona) has been acting out, which is also understandable.

A few weeks ago, our team was just hanging out during lunch, Fiona was there too. A few others and I had our phones out and we were making "video diaries"(not really, it is just videos of us making stupid jokes). I didn't notice, but Fiona had apparently gotten quiet, so when someone asked her if she was ok, she said she was as ok as someone would be after a [insult racial slur] has stolen their spot on the team. Rose got angry and told her that she didn't steal her position, and told Fiona that had she not been unsportsman-like, she wouldn't have gotten...

AITA for calling my friend out for getting plastic surgery (making her cry) at the beach?

This happened on Saturday, my friends and I were at the beach in total it was five of us. I should add that I am the only Black girl in the friend group, everyone else is White except one of my friends who is mixed Asian and White.

The sun was particularly strong and while we all put on sun screen I wanted to get a beach umbrella before going on the beach. We were going to be there all day and I said I didn't want to get too dark and in general sunscreen only does so much.

Cindy then starts lecturing me on how I need to accept my own skin that there is no such thing as "too dark." That being Black is beautiful and that I should love myself. It just really rubbed me the wrong way because it was like she was talking down to me as if I am some stupid kid. I am perfectly fine with my skin, but no I don't want to roast in the sun.

So I tell Cindy, that it's really rich coming from you. Aren't you the same one that is dying to get a tan? Why don't you love your White skin? Or why can't you just love your own lips? Why did you get lip fillers? Why do you want to get veneers? Aren't you happy with the way god made you?

I didn't realize but some of our friends didn't know about the extensive plastic surgery Cindy has gotten and she actually just told people she looked like that...

AITA for not giving my sister my house and kicking her out of hers?

Long story, will try to shorten it as much as possible but let me know if something doesn't make sense. Throwaway because my nephew uses reddit.

I have 1 younger sister who has 3 kids in their early-late teens. She has horrible financial sense and a ton of debt.

About 6 years ago our parents passed away, they left my sister some investments in a managed fund which are worth over 300k but she can only access a small amount(around 20k), once every 6 months. I think this was an excellent idea as it the past when she has gotten large lump sums she has blown through it rapidly without paying off debt.

Case in point, about six months after our parents deaths my sisters husband passed away and she got a life insurance payout of almost 250k and she spent it within a year without paying down her mortgage, paying off student/credit card debt and then got behind on her mortgage and the bank foreclosed on her house.

Our parents left me their house, I had specifically asked for it so I could rent it and use it as collateral to buy a house of my own. It was only worth around 250k at the time and was recently valued at 320k. After my sister ran out of her husband's life insurance I let her move into my parents house in what was supposed to be a temporary arrangement while she found a job(she was a SAHM). I let her stay for free excluding expenses. The house is relatively small(only 3bdrm) and she...

AITA for making my sister feel left out at my wedding because of her service dog?

My sister recently completed training her service dog to help with her heart problems. My mother-in-law is severely allergic to dogs, having trouble breathing and several bad reactions. I got married 2 weeks ago and I wanted to have both of them at my wedding, but I had this allergy problem. I talked to my sister and explained to her that I would love to have her at the wedding, but I would have to make some adjustments to the ceremony and party because of my MIL's allergies, because I know she must bring her dog. I made a commitment: My sister wouldn't sit in the first row (row of parents and sibilings) but a little further away and her table at the party would be further away too (there was a table for her parents and one for sibiling, she would be at the sibilings), but as my MIL wouldn't stay long at the party and after an hour she would leave (right after the mother-son dance)... After that it would be ll, I would like her to feel at ease. But with my MIL, she would have this limitation on distance until she's gone, because just as she is my sister, my MIL is my husband's mother. She didn't look very happy, but said she understood my conflict and accepted. My wedding day was wonderful, my sister was at the religious ceremony, but I heard that she didn't stay at the party, even though my MIL stayed for 1 hour. After I got back from my honeymoon, I called her up to talk and she said...

AITAH for not giving niece a birthday present after she destroyed mine?

So I am aware I might sound like a petty child but at the same time I feel like this kid needs to learn a lesson. I'll explain.

Me and my niece have birthdays a few weeks apart, mine first. On the day I got this beautiful jewelry dish from my mom, she knows I lost mine when I moved house and so it really meant a lot that she got one which looks similar as it had sentimental value.

During the family dinner I heard this smash from the other room, I run out and my niece (14F) is standing next to the smashed jewelry dish. I am just stunned into silence and she just looks at me and says 'well it was ugly anyway' and then goes to the bathroom.

I wondered if she was just embarassed in the moment and so was mean to cover that up, but since then I overheard her in the back yard on the phone to her friend saying 'my aunt is being so annoying about this stupid dish, it looked horrible anyway, I did her a favour'.

I mentioned it to my sister and she said that her daughter was just being a kid, but I think she should have at least apologised.

So now that it's her birthday, I am not gonna be buying her anything, I just got her a card but why gift her something when she smashed my dish and showed no remorse?

My sister thinks I am being horrible and will be ruining her daughters' birthday, but I...

Husband is using reward points to buy stuff but charging me half. AIO?

My husband and I “square up” every week or so where we both total our expenses for things we bought that include each other, i.e. eating out, items for the house, groceries, gas (we carpool to work). I noticed my husband had bought a few items for our grill and he used his reward points to pay for them. I asked him about it and he just said he was wanted to. Moving on to today we were doing our square up and he asked me to split the items with him that he bought with his reward points. That sort of ticked me off for one, it’s not even money technically coming out of his account, but now it has to come out of mine? The way I use reward points is for things I want for myself but don’t want to actually use money in my account for, or if I do use my reward points for something communal, I split what’s left after the reward points between us because in my opinion it’s free money? His thought is it’s money he technically has in his bank account but I see it as the opposite. Honestly it comes off a little greedy in my eyes. If he would’ve spent actual “real” money that left his account I would split it with him no problem. But the fact that he chose to use his reward points, lost no money in the process (my eyes) then charge me for it just puts a bad taste in my mouth. AIO?

TLDR; husband chose to use his reward points...
