He was a real soldier during World War II who refused to carry or use a gun because of his beliefs. Instead, he served as a combat medic and focused on saving lives rather than taking them.
His most famous moment happened during the Battle of Okinawa, where he stayed on the battlefield while others retreated and rescued around 75 wounded soldiers—by himself. He kept lowering them down a cliff one by one, risking his life the entire time.
Because of his bravery, he became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor.
His story was also turned into the movie 🎬 Hacksaw Ridge.
