VAN TOUR: solo van life w/ a cat in a ford transit👇🏻
I’ve been doing solo van life for the last four years with my cat, Atlas & here’s where we live! So welcome to a rapid speed tour.
Back in 2021, I left my comfy, corporate job & city life in Chicago to take a risk to live in a van alone with my two cats, Atlas & Otto. I was supposed to only be gone a year and go back to my old life… but in reality, I was starting over. Four and a half years & two rigs later… and I am still living this way.

• this is my second ford transit rig and IMO, the BEST vehicle option I love my transit so much.
Van Includes:

how-to: take photos by yourself (+ video at the same time)👇🏻
Ps… none of this is spon. I’ve been living alone in a van for the last four years so my tripod is my best friend.
So here’s my setup & what photo tips:
Sunrise Self Portraits Step by Step:
• get to location 30 minutes before
• find your angles & try on different colors of outfits to see what works
• put camera on intervelometer mode
• connect remote (note: these cameras are amazing for auto focus EXCEPT when it comes to self timers- so I use a remote to focus first). Lmk if this needs more explaining.
• I put my phone adapter in my camera and use my iPhone for video.
• now move around, be silly, use props!
Once done, I edit everything in Lightroom & Tezza app!
Photo/video tips:
- I like using more compressed shots so the mountains look bigger. So for my camera lens I used a 28-200 & then for video, I used 2x zoom! I’m pretty anti 1x zoom for mountains!
Camera tips :
- try getting one with intervelometer mode. This allows you to take continuous photos at your choosing (every 1 second for 30 seconds)
- if yours doesn’t have this, you can order a remote/plug in for your camera to do it!
Tripod Tips:
- I recommend getting one with three legs for outdoor use. Not the collapsible ones as they blow down really easily in the wind.

Here's how I did my hair today!
Some people may not know they actually have curly hair. So here's everything I did today to get my air dry curls to look the way they do!
Step 1:
• Get your products from
Step 2:
• Shampoo your roots with Fructis Curl Nourish Sulfate-Free Shampoo Infused with Coconut Oil & Glycerin
Step 3:
• Condition your ends & brush them with Garnier Fructis Curl Nourish Paraben-free Conditioner Infused with Coconut Oil & Glycerin
Step 4:
• Use a dime size amount of the the Garnier Fructis Air Dry Cream & then use the prayer hands method to distribute
Step 5:
• Use the Garnier Fructis Style Curl Shape Defining Spray Gel at the ends and scrunch!
Step 6:
• Monitor the curls and rewet with the spray bottle if you see a few that need a little extra something!
Step 7:
• Use your fingers to break up with the curls & done!!

Ford Transit vs. Sprinter/ Promaster👇🏻
As someone who has lived alone in two different Ford Transits over the last 4.5 years, here’s why I will always pick the transit over the Dodge Promaster or the Mercedes Sprinter👇🏻

1️⃣ The tallest cargo van on the market: the high roof gives me 6’8” of standing room inside as an empty cargo van. Then depending on insulation, you’ll lose a few inches BUT my dad is 6’4” and can stand in my van w/ out needing to duck.
2️⃣ I’m 5’9” and can sleep sideway (the width): the van is 72” wide across the interior, which means I don’t have to waste space sleeping long ways in the van. NOTE: in my first van, I could sleep the width but in my second van, I wanted a bit extra room so I did add flares for 8 additional inches.
3️⃣ Ford parts & mechanics are everywhere: If you break down, you can usually get back on the road quickly. With Mercedes or Dodge, you might be waiting weeks for parts or a qualified mechanic.
4️⃣ It drives like a car!! TBD I bought this van without ever test driving it and was really surprised how easy it was to drive. Additionally, with AWD (cheaper than a Sprinter), I can take it almost anywhere my friends in trucks go. Reminder I did say ALMOST everywhere. In 4 years I’ve only been stuck one & it was in a snowbank from my stupidity hehe. But also don’t take this thing super off-roading ok!
5️⃣ The roof is massive: I’ve got space for two fans, a deck, and 450 watts of solar power.
Other hot takes:
The Dodge Promaster IS the cheapest one and technically the easiest to build inside with the square walls HOWEVER you WILL NEED AN EMERGENCY FUND. 75% of my friends with promasters have had mechanical issues & have been in the shop for months. It’s not if your transmition will go… it’s when. SORRY THAT’S JUST HOW IT IS.

VanLife w/ Pets: Why I Don’t Have AC + How I Keep Atlas Cool👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
After 4+ years on the road with cats, here is what I recommend doing when you have pets and no AC.
*PSA & y’all know this, but I would NEVER put Atlas in any danger. Safety is my number one concern.*
1. Have at least 2 forms of air circulation in your van! I have 2 Maxxair fans that blow in and out and 2 windows. When the fans are turned on, it creates an amazing wind tunnel. Reminder, you can turn these fans on to push air in and out.
2. Have a partition door or thick/weighted curtain that separates the hottest part of the vehicle from the living space.
3. FULLY INSULATE your van! My van is fully insulated and not like a regular vehicle.
4. Invest in heavy duty window covers! I get mine from vanmadegear and LOVE them!
5. Travel for WEATHER. I stay in places that are 85 degrees & below. So in the winter, I go to Baja & then in the summer, I go into the mountains.
6. Stay away from vans with too many windows! If you are searching for a van right now, get a cargo van and NOT a passenger van. More windows = more sunlight. The more windows you have, the harder it will be to regulate temps.
7. If there is a heat wave, LEAVE or book a hotel. It’s just not worth the risk.
8. When I’m gone for a while, I connect my ring camera to my Starlink so I can check in!
9. LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFO ON YOUR DASH! In the four years I’ve been doing this, someone has only called me once.
But also, if your cat is like mine, they will just go to the hottest part of the van. Atlas pretty much just ignores my “cool down the van” area.
Other Notes:
• Make sure they have plenty of water!
The reason I chose to not have AC is because it takes too much power and I really don’t think I personally need it.
HOWEVER: If you have to stay somewhere that is HOT all summer and you have a place to plug your van in THEN I absolutely recommend getting AC!
