Alright, let’s talk about a historic moment coming out of Hollywood tonight.

Actor Michael B. Jordan is officially an Oscar winner.

The 39- year- old star took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Sinners, where he pulled double duty playing identical twins Smoke and Stack in a supernatural blues soaked thriller set in 1930s Mississippi.

And when his name was called inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the room erupted.

Last year’s winner Adrien Brody announced the award, and the crowd immediately jumped to its feet. Actress and singer Teyana Taylor, who was also nominated for a supporting role in the film, could be seen celebrating in the audience as Jordan made his way to the stage.

Once he got there, Jordan took a moment to soak it all in before simply saying,

“Whew, man.”

Now this moment is bigger than just one award.
Michael B. Jordan now becomes only the sixth Black man in history to win the Oscar for Best Actor.

That puts him in a legendary group that includes Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, and now Michael B. Jordan.

During his speech, Jordan made sure to honor the giants who paved the way.

He thanked Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith, saying he stands on the shoulders of those who came before him.

Jordan also shared a powerful message with the audience.

He said people believed in him, invested in him, and bet on his success over the years. And he promised he would continue to step up and be the best version of himself.

The film Sinners also marks another major collaboration between Jordan and director Ryan Coogler. The two have been building one of the most successful creative partnerships in Hollywood for more than a decade.

Their work together goes all the way back to Fruitvale Station, the powerful film that first introduced Jordan to many audiences as the real life Oscar Grant. From there they went on to create box office hits like Creed, Black Panther, and now the Oscar winning film Sinners.

Jordan’s journey in entertainment actually started more than 20 years ago on television with early roles on The Wire, All My Children, and Friday Night Lights before becoming one of the biggest movie stars in the world.

And tonight, that long road reached a brand new milestone.

Michael B. Jordan is now an Academy Award winner.

How many of you can say you stayed strong all year during the Target boycott?

I’ll admit, it wasn’t easy for me. Target has always been one of my favorite stores, but my family and I stayed the course.

Today may be the green light some people have been waiting for, as organizers of the boycott are now declaring victory.

A national boycott targeting retail giant Target has officially come to an end after organizers say the campaign secured major commitments benefiting the Black community.

Pastor Jamal Bryant announced the conclusion during a press conference Tuesday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. He was joined by activist Tamika Mallory and former Ohio Senator Nina Turner.

The effort, known online as the Target Fast 40, encouraged Black consumers to redirect their spending away from the retailer after the company stepped back from several diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Bryant called the campaign one of the most powerful economic protests by Black consumers in modern history.

“It’s been a year, and they didn’t think we could do it, but we did,” Bryant said. “The most effective boycott by Black people since the Montgomery Bus Boycott.”

According to Bryant, organizers made four major demands. He says three of those goals have now been achieved.

Target has committed to investing $2 billion in Black communities, along with an additional $100 million for organizations serving them. The company has also agreed to partner with historically Black colleges and universities through a pilot program expected to expand to additional HBCUs.

Bryant says conversations are still ongoing about another key request, investment into Black-owned banks.

For now, organizers say the boycott has demonstrated the economic power of Black consumers and what can happen when communities move together.

The Target Fast has officially come to an end.

Some stories take a moment to sit with before sharing.

News broke yesterday morning about the tragic death of a Louisville teenager, but the details were difficult to process. The loss of such a young life is heartbreaking, especially when it highlights the kind of situation many believe could have been prevented.

Now the Louisville community is mourning 16 year old Janiah Brown, a student at Central High School, who was hit and killed early Tuesday morning while trying to cross Cane Run Road.

According to Louisville Metro Police, the crash happened just before 7 a.m. near Teakwood Circle in the St. Denis neighborhood. Investigators say Brown was attempting to cross the multi lane roadway in the dark, outside of a crosswalk, when she was struck by a passenger vehicle and an SUV.

Police initially reported that a semi truck was also involved in the crash but later corrected that information.

Brown died at the scene.

Jefferson County Public Schools confirmed that Brown was a student at Central High School, and the loss has shaken the school community.

For many Louisville residents, this tragedy also reopens a familiar conversation about the dangers of some of the city’s busiest corridors. Cane Run Road and nearby stretches of Dixie Highway have long been the subject of safety concerns from drivers and pedestrians alike.

With darker mornings now arriving after the time change, visibility challenges are once again part of the early commute. As the community mourns the loss of Janiah Brown, many are left asking a painful but necessary question.

What can be done to make sure a moment like this never happens again?

Louisville’s creative community has another reason to celebrate.

Nationally recognized fine artist LaNia Roberts, known to many as LaNia the Artist, will be featured on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, March 10. The Louisville native is set to appear on the nationally syndicated daytime show where she will present a special surprise for award winning singer and host Jennifer Hudson.

Roberts is a proud first generation college graduate who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Syracuse University in 2019. Since then, her work has grown into a powerful voice in the contemporary art world. Her paintings explore memory, identity, and liberation through vibrant color, collage, and layered storytelling that honors the beauty and complexity of Black life.

Her work has already captured national attention and has been collected by major institutions including KADIST and 21c Museum Hotels. Roberts has also broadened her artistic perspective by traveling and studying in more than a dozen countries across Africa, Europe, and North America, allowing global experiences to shape her creative lens.

Beyond the canvas, Roberts continues to expand her creative influence. She is also a writer, speaker, and singer who has built a global audience of nearly half a million followers online, with more than 60 million video views across platforms.

Through her creative voice, she encourages audiences worldwide to embrace healing, creativity, and radical compassion.

In 2024, Roberts released her debut vocal album Born on Sunday (The Sketch), a faith-rooted project created entirely with her voice. She also recently signed her first book deal with HarperCollins Zondervan, marking another major milestone in her growing career.

Now, Roberts is taking Louisville with her onto the national stage.

Ahead of the show, on her social media, she shared her gratitude with supporters, thanking her community for helping her reach this moment and celebrating what she called "a blessing from God."

Viewers can catch LaNia Roberts on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, March 10.

For many in Louisville, her appearance is more than a television moment. It is another reminder that the city’s creative voices continue to rise, inspire, and make their mark on the national stage.

March is National Kidney Month.

This month shines a light on kidney disease and the urgent need for organ donors. Today we want to lift up a women in our community who needs a kidney transplant.

ElderServe announced a new partnership Monday with the University of Louisville School of Nursing and Creative Spirits Behavioral Health that will expand both physical and mental health support for older adults in our community.

The collaboration will bring clinical nursing training and free on site counseling services directly to seniors and caregivers through ElderServe programs.

“This innovative and community shifting collaboration will bring clinical nursing training and free on site counseling services directly to our community, strengthening both healthcare access and emotional support for older adults and caregivers,” said ElderServe CEO Pastor Timothy Findley Jr.

Leaders say the partnership is about more than services. It is about strengthening the safety net for Louisville’s aging population and the families who care for them.

A powerful step forward in making sure our elders receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

The Black church has always been more than just a place of worship.

It’s where the community gathers. Where we share stories, find strength, and organize for change.

And historically, it has also been a place where leaders are born.

The Civil Rights Movement was rooted in the Black church. One of the greatest civil rights leaders in history, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was a pastor.

Now another pastor may be heading to Washington.

Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglas Haynes III has won the Democratic primary for Texas’ 30th Congressional District, according to projections reported by CBS News.

That victory positions the longtime Dallas faith leader as the overwhelming favorite to win the seat in November.

Haynes is the senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, one of the largest Black churches in the region with more than 13,000 members.

For years he has been a powerful voice on civil rights, economic opportunity, voting rights and criminal justice reform.

And he wouldn’t be the first pastor to make the move from the pulpit to politics.

Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock, the senior pastor of Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, now serves in the U.S. Senate while continuing the church’s legacy once led by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Texas’ 30th District, which covers much of southern Dallas, has been held by Democrats for decades and is considered one of the most reliably Democratic districts in the state.

The seat was most recently held by Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, who ran for U.S. Senate in 2026.

If elected in November, Haynes would take decades of pastoral leadership and community advocacy with him to Capitol Hill.

For many in the Black community, it’s another reminder that the Black church continues to shape leadership far beyond Sunday morning.

Pinky Cole, the Slutty Vegan founder who is new to 'RHOA', filed for bankruptcy ... and it looks like she's got a good chunk of debt.

According to new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Pinky filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy ... and she says she owes the U.S. Small Business Administration $1.2 million.

What's more, Pinky says she owes another $192,000 in total to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

In the docs, Pink says her homes, jewelry, clothing, cars, artwork and other personal property are worth about $3.7 million ... and she said her monthly expenses are around $41,700.

The filing comes on the heels of Pinky being added to the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta’ Cast

Spalding University just announced a pretty big name for its Spring 2026 commencement.

Three time Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes will deliver the keynote address to the Class of 2026 on Saturday, May 9.

Dawes is best known as part of the legendary “Magnificent Seven,” the U.S. women’s gymnastics team that won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Since retiring from gymnastics, she has built an impressive career off the mat. Dawes founded the Dominique Dawes Gymnastics and Ninja Academy and is also a minority owner of the Washington Spirit and part of an ownership group with a stake in the Atlanta Falcons.

Spalding leaders say Dawes was chosen because her story of dedication, teamwork, and service reflects the university’s mission.

Not a bad person to send graduates into the world with a little motivation.
