Hello Day-Trippers! I just watched a John Wayne Movie called
The Searchers. I have never seen it before.
This Movie was inspired by the real story of Cynthia Ann Parker.
Cynthia Ann Parker was stolen from her family at the age of 9 years old by the Comanche Indians. She lived with the Commanche Indians for 24 years.
She adapted to their ways, their culture and their language.
Cynthia married a Comanche Chief. Together, they had 3 children. One of her children became the last living Comanche Indian chief. His name was Quanah Parker.
The Texas Rangers, after 24 years recaptured Cynthia Ann Parker. They retaught her the English Language and the ways of the white man. Unfortunately, she did not readjust to the white man, because she considered herself a Comanche. She grìeved herself to death and died.
In the movie, it tells the story about the Rangers recapturing Cynthia.
Cynthia Ann Parker was taken from her Family's home, Called Fort Parker, located in Mexia, Texas. The fort still remains, and you can tour the Fort.
Therefore, I am putting Fort Parker in Mexia, Texas on our Day-Trippers List of Events.
This trip is personal to me, because our family is related to Cynthia Ann Parker. My grandmothers last name was Parker and through genealogy, we found that we are related to Cynthia and Quanah Parker.
Mexia is less than 2 hours away from Onalaska.
Let me know if you would be interested in going on this Daytrip.
Any history buffs should love this trip!
