New Show up at the gallery! Reception TOMORROW 3-5pm (Saturday January 7) part of
Western Avenue Studios’ monthly open house.

Loading Dock Gallery presents Youthful Visions: 6th Annual Greater Lowell Regional Art Show, a showcase of art by local high school seniors. Participating are students from Innovation Academy Charter School, Lunenburg High School, Groton Dunstable High School, Lowell High School, Tyngsboro High School, Billerica High School, and Pelham High School.
In Youthful Visions, students present their generational perspective on our times. They ask, “What am I going to do?” and “What do I see in the world?” Their artworks are mixed media, based on the students’ interpretation of the theme and their personal experience and style. Youthful Visions uplifts local young artists. For many it is a first opportunity to show work in a public gallery.
This January, share the rising generation’s Youthful Visions of our world.

First underpainting of “Grandmother Tree” in the works. I can already see the detail on her being consummate. That’s the way it is when you’re painting such a grand lady’s portrait.

January Wolf Moon

During this time of midwinter, you’ll be able to see the Wolf Moon, sometimes called the Ice Moon, at its fullest tonight at 6:09 p.m. This Moon is located on the opposite side of the Earth to the Sun so the face of the Moon facing towards the Earth will be entirely illuminated by the Sun’s rays. Look for the Moon to rise from the northeastern horizon around sunset, if the clouds clear.

The Wolf Moon received its name from the Algonquin tribes, one of which is the Wampanoag. They said when the moon set in the skies at this time of year, they could hear hungry packs of wolves howling. However, it is a myth that wolves howl at the moon! The howling can be a social rally call, a wail for food scarcity, a hail to hunt, or a territorial expression. A howl can even help a lost wolf find its way home.

I enjoy going outside to look at the full moon on a quiet night... I feel so tiny when I look up at the large full moon. I challenge you to go outside and look up at the moon (provided the moon is not hidden by cloud cover).
As you look up at the moon, ponder what I share below……

Some moon folklore: A bright first Moon promises rain and a bountiful harvest; a red-tinted Moon means a dry year. What do you see tonight?

A quote from John L. Stoddard (1850-1931)

The sunset embers smolder low,
The Moon climbs o’er the hill,
The peaks have caught the alpenglow,
The robin’s song is still.
Now what do you think?

About Us

Our Mission: We are the voice of Lowell around the world.

Did you know that the average American watches 14 years worth of television in their lifetime? But did it ever occur to you to ask how much time that same person spends making television? Doesn’t it seem pretty crazy that TV and digital video are the main ways we get information and entertain ourselves but such a small percentage of us actually know how to make our own video?

That’s what LTC is here for – to get all of us average Americans off the couch and BEHIND the camera – calling the shots, telling the stories, and truly communicating with other members of our community.

Ever dreamed of being on TV? Or do you just have something you’d really like to say? Then come to LTC and we can help you make the thought a reality.

Coalition for a Better Acre is proud to share that our own Dolores "Loli" Sierra has been awarded the 2022 Living the Dream Award for her years of engaging our neighbors in an effort to build a strong community.

Loli was recognized for not only helping Acre residents get what they need, but orchestrating events and feedback campaigns to strengthen connections across the community. She shared how unexpected this award was as she goes about her daily work, "The work that you do for others in secret, others will notice without you knowing and when you least expect it, you are able to shine and share it with the world. My advice is be humble and your time will come to shine!"

Loli became part of the CBA family as a kid when she attended clean-up events with her family, including her Super Volunteer mom, Francy. After coming on board via the AmeriCorps Vista program, Loli coordinated CBA's youth programming until the Community Engagement and Event Coordinator position was created in 2019. We are lucky to have her continue to grow with us.
