Many thanks to the ANA for recognizing the importance of Black History Month…“This February, the American Nurses Association proudly celebrates Black History Month, honoring the remarkable contributions of Black nurses throughout history and recognizing their ongoing impact on the profession and the health of our nation. We are committed to amplifying Black voices, advocating for health equity, and working to dismantle systemic racism within nursing and the broader healthcare system. Join us throughout the month as we celebrate the rich legacy of Black individuals and their profound contributions to our society. As nurses, we especially want to honor the remarkable Black men and women who have shaped and continue to shape the nursing profession.

This week, we pay tribute to the trailblazing Black nurses who broke barriers and paved the way for future generations. From the pioneering spirit of Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first Black graduate nurse in the United States, to the courageous work of nurses like Harriet Tubman during the Civil War, Black nurses have consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to serving others.

Their stories are not just historical accounts; they are testaments to the power of perseverance, the importance of diversity in healthcare, and the enduring impact of culturally competent care. These pioneers paved the way for future generations of Black nurses, inspiring us to continue their legacy of compassion, advocacy, and excellence.

Let us continue to learn from their strength, their wisdom, and their unwavering dedication to the nursing profession. ”
