This isn’t what I normally post. And maybe it won’t be received well. But this is why you cull. This was a doe from my original trio of American Sables. She was so sweet I nicknamed her Honey Bun. She was an excellent mother to the single kit she gave me and two fosters. Those were the only babies she ever raised in my care because she failed time and time again to get pregnant after that. It wasn’t her fault and I never blamed her, she wasn’t culled because it was convenient or she was wasting resources. I breed as a hobby, and I produce maybe 5 litters a year. Most of my does freeload for months at a time. This doe was culled because I started to fear for her health. Aside from fertility issues, she was also gaining weight at a rate I wasn’t comfortable with, even on a rationed diet. So I culled her. And I’m glad I did, because this was what her reproductive system looked like. (And no, she hadn’t been bred or exposed to a buck in months.) I’m still not sure what caused this, but I am sure that it was probably uncomfortable and I’m hoping it wasn’t painful. She died quickly and with kisses on her head being her last experience. Culling, whether for food or mercy isn’t wrong or evil, and I sleep better knowing she isn’t suffering anymore.

RIP Honey Bun, your grandbabies are thriving.

And if any of my followers know what causes this please comment! Her surviving kit was a buck, but he’s produced some does that I’m keeping an eye on in case it’s genetic.

Class is in session!
The Mini Rex babies are going on three weeks old and have started posing lessons ✨
This is by no means an attempt to asses them, and they certainly aren’t posed perfectly. This is just to get them used to handling so they cooperate when the time comes to decide who stays and who goes.
One little nugget in particular is looking promising and handles the best out of both litters 👀

There’s new babies! But they aren’t American Sables. 👀👀
Introducing Cryptic Shades Mini Rex 🥳🥳🥳
After nearly 6 long months of looking and bringing in the genetics we wanted there are finally two litters of little nuggets to show off!
We will be focusing solely on shaded Mini Rex, staying true to our love of sables. We are so happy and excited for these babies! Hopefully some of them will find their way to a show table in the next few months 💖
