So far this is the only kit with both eyes fully open but the others won’t be too far behind. Poor momma is coming upon every does worst fear: babies that can move AND see 😂

The little nuggets aren’t bald anymore and should be opening their eyes soon 🥹
Unfortunately the runt of the litter is struggling to grow like its litter mates. This is typical for my litters that have 8 or more kits, but so far I haven’t had a kit that was so obviously behind. Normally I would foster this baby to another doe, but this is my only litter still in a nest box so humanely culling it is the next step if it starts falling much farther behind.
So let this be your PSA to breed does two at a time in case a foster is needed. The one time I break my rule is naturally when I need a foster. You live and you learn. For now I’m keeping a close eye on the little one, but I won’t be surprised if 8 turns into 7 in the next week. (Granted I’ve been saying that since they were born and am surprised this kit didn’t fade the first few days.)
