📍 Alto, GA (May 30, 2026)
UPDATE A week and a half after the train derailment in Alto, we returned to the scene again to see how cleanup efforts are progressing.

Crews are doing an amazing job cleaning this up! I can only imagine how hard it is to clean this mess up!

Heavy machinery has moved in to begin clearing the massive amount of debris left behind.

The locomotives are still there, sitting off the tracks in the woods where they came to rest after leaving the rails.

The good news is that Old Cornelia Highway has reopened temporarily in the area, but cleanup crews still have a long road ahead and you can still expect road closures throughout the process. Here are some images from the scene showing the ongoing recovery efforts and the incredible scale of the damage. So thankful no injuries!

Thank you to the hardworking clean up crews!

📍 Alto, GA (filmed May 23, 2026)
After posting a photo album from the Alto train derailment scene and seeing so much interest, I wanted to share video too.

According to Hall County Sheriff’s Office, a Norfolk Southern train struck a lowboy trailer on the tracks Thursday morning (May 21, 2026) at Old Cornelia Highway and Yonah-Homer Road in Alto, causing the derailment.

We drove out to the scene, just a few miles from home, and seeing the damage up close… it’s incredible no one was hurt.

The twisted metal shows just how serious this could have been. So thankful no injuries were reported. 🙏
