Three years ago, I started Graves Assisting and the whole point was to have freedom. Freedom to work with people I actually love, on my own terms, and still have a real life outside of it.

Can I be honest for a quick sec? 🫣

Even I find myself drowning in tasks within my own business sometimes. Like, I literally do this for a living and I STILL have moments where I'm buried and overwhelmed (hence why I've been slacking on posting here 😅).

So when I see other creative, small business owners running themselves into the ground trying to do it all... it genuinely makes me sad. Because I know exactlyyy how that feels and I know what's waiting on the other side of it when you finally let someone help. 🥹

I LOVE what I do and here’s why 🥹

No, not just for the pats on the back. 😆 Not for the praise. But because I like helping genuinely good people!

When I started working in the salon industry back in 2017, it was because I had a passion for makeup and I started offering permanent makeup because I wanted to help people feel more confident in their own skin. And most of the time, it felt really fulfilling. 💖

But there were many moments that reminded me something was off. Times when the focus wasn’t confidence or care, but next-to-impossible perfection. 😅 Times when I felt less like a professional and more like I was expected to perform miracles or else...🫣

That’s when I realized something important...the environment you work in matters just as much (if not more at times) as the work you do.

Now, I get to partner with kind, passionate business owners who are building meaningful things that genuinely value my support. 🤩

They are the part I love most! 🥹🫶🏼💖

Quick reminder: your business should be supporting your life, not consuming it. 👀

Sometimes stepping away from your business can feel genuinely impossible. 😅 There’s always a running to-do list and a million tiny tasks waiting for you.

But with the right systems and support in place, that list stops feeling so overwhelming and can wait until work hours. 😎

Which is why I can now go scream at a hockey game with my husband and not think about my task list or inbox until my next work day. (And yes, you can build your business this way too 😉)

Let's clear up some confusion! 😎

Virtual assisting is a fairly new industry and because of that, there can be confusion on the difference between them and personal assistants. So let's talk about it!

The first obvious difference is that one is virtual and the other is not. 😆 Everything I do as a VA is entirely remote. No in person meetings. No out and about tasks.

But it’s not always just about virtual vs in-person. It’s about focus. PA's often focus on their clients daily life (errands, appointments, non-business related support).

VA's are hired on for their specific skills to help with the backend of their client's business (aka I'm working on your website, social media, designing marketing material etc. that solely relates to your business).

Lastly, because PA's work in person, they're more limited on who they can offer services to, location-wise. Whereas VA's provide support across timezones (I have clients across the country and even in Milan, Italy 🤩).

Long story short, VA's support businesses. PA's support personal life tasks.
