We intentionally design authentic, engaging materials for comprehensive, integrated instruction, application, and assessment of all components of early literacy development-- aligned with the science of reading. The materials Flyleaf intentionally creates on behalf of teachers and students align with the converging evidence around the Science of Reading and integrate systematic instruction, applic

ation, and assessment of all components of early literacy development. Our materials support teachers in delivering explicit, systematic instruction in the areas of word recognition, language comprehension, and the processes that bridge them. Engaging instructional interactions allow students to authentically practice reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking. Our library of high-quality texts in multiple genres is crafted to engage students with beautiful illustrations, carefully chosen words, and meaningful content they can independently interact with. Formal and informal opportunities for assessment are integrated with our instruction, giving teachers the information they need to understand and respond to individual student's instructional needs and improve learning outcomes. The result is a continuum of comprehensive, integrated instructional experiences that mirror the remarkable way our brains simultaneously employ skills, strategies, and processes when making meaning from text. Together, we can elevate evidence-based early literacy instruction to an art form!

Flyleaf has been proud to provide educators and families with free access to our high-quality, engaging, and systematically designed decodable texts and implementation resources. We are excited to share that free digital access to all 89 of our decodable texts, homework pages, SMART Notebook files, Family Connections Newsletters, and Model Lesson Videos will continue through the 2025–2026 school year—now in a new location!

If you have not moved over to our new Community Space, the Flyleaf Online Materials Portal will close on August 29th.

One way to build this connection is by using Flyleaf’s Family Connections Newsletters. Our newsletters give a clear window into what students are learning in school and help families actively support learning beyond the classroom.

Many of our educators have found that preparing student-material bags supports smooth implementation and ensures students have everything they need to fully engage in learning.
