He took her hand. Through the standing ovation, the salute, and the walk off the field, he never let go. That is the part that stayed with me. Because whether our girls are 7, 17, or 70, sometimes they just need to know Dad’s hand is still there.

Justin Verlander ended his 21-year career holding his daughter’s hand, a moment that spoke to every parent watching a child’s years pass by.

Tennessee FFA State Officer Jordan Davis spent Monday with Corey Searcy’s Moore County AG Department/FFA classes at MCHS – and she didn’t come just to stand at the front of the room and talk.

Davis, a Wilson Central graduate and freshman at MTSU, had students on their feet, working together, and learning by doing through hands-on exercises built around teamwork, communication, and leadership.

She serves as Middle Tennessee vice president for the Tennessee FFA Association and is also a recipient of the Claude & Nelda Harris Scholarship through the Tennessee FFA Foundation.

It was the kind of morning that fits right at home in an ag classroom – a little learning, a little laughter, and a chance for students to hear from someone who was sitting where they are not all that long ago.

🎶 Singo gets things started Thursday night at Canterero.
🥧 Friday brings fried pies at First Methodist – just in time for Homecoming.
🚗 Saturday rolls in with the Wh***ey Runners’ car show at Wiseman Park, plus more fried pies, a cake walk, food, music, and plenty more.

Monday belongs to Alexus Hornaday, Colton Morey, and Braden Works ⛳️ The three Moore County golfers will tee it up at Ross Creek Landing in the Region Tournament, each with a chance to keep the season rolling into the State finals Oct. 5-6 in Sevierville.

There’ll be plenty happening around Lynchburg for Homecoming on Friday, but once the lights come on, there’s a football game to settle.

Moore County returns from its open week with Eagleville coming to town for a 7 p.m. Region 5 matchup. The Raiders have found some balance on offense, the youngsters are growing up on defense, and head coach Kris White says they’re “not far off.”

Kris White says the Raiders are “not far off,” touts defensive growth and offensive balance in search of Region 5 win.

The hallways are about to get a little louder at MCHS.

Somebody will show up dressed like they’re headed somewhere they most certainly are not. Cowboy hats will wander through the halls, Raider blue will be everywhere, and there’ll probably be an outfit or two that takes some explaining.

Must be Homecoming week.

Dress-up days get rolling Monday. Powderpuff takes the field Tuesday night, and by Friday, there really is no place like home. The parade is at 1:30, then the Raiders welcome Eagleville under the lights for the Homecoming game 🏈

Then everybody cleans up a little Saturday night for the Homecoming Dance.

As we know: There’s no place like home. 🩵

The Methodist Women are firing up the fried pies with apple, pecan, chocolate, and apricot/peach blend for $3.50 apiece.

Walk-in sales and preorder pickups will be Friday, Oct. 2, from 1-4 p.m. at First Methodist Church, 65 Mechanic St. Then they’ll be back Saturday, Oct. 3, at Wiseman Park during the Wh***ey Runners Cruisin’ the Hollow Car Show.
