The USGA golf ball distance rollback – a rule that changes testing conditions to reduce driving distances for pros and most amateur golfers – was originally scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2028 for “elite” players, and January 1, 2030 for recreational golfers.

This past January, golf’s governing body was considering changing the date for recreational golfers to coincide with the date for elite players.
