Curious, as a small business owner, solopreneur, what’s your back up plan in case you need to take time off work, take a vacation, get sick or need to take care of someone?
Can I be totally honest with you?
It’s been challenging at times to fly solo in my business for the past 2 decades. Sure, I’ve had some help on and off. A few assistants for specific tasks here and there. But never really a stand in, or a comprehensive back up plan.
If you’re like me and made the jump from corporate to business ownership, one of the reasons was time flexibility - the escape from the “9-5”.
But we didn’t plan to trade the 9-5 just to get stuck in the hamster wheel of working 7 days a week without PTO or holidays off.
Yet somewhere along the way, “freedom” can turn into always being available.
When you are the business…
If you stop, the income stops.
If you’re unavailable, the clients wait (or walk).
If life happens, you’re left scrambling.
And let’s be real…
Life does happen.
Kids get sick.
Family emergencies pull you out.
Your body says “pause” even when your calendar says “go.”
I learned the hard way that hustle isn’t a backup plan.
It’s a liability.
So lately, I’ve been asking myself:
What does true sustainability look like?
The kind where:
… Clients still get served
… Sales still happen
… Your business still grows
… Even when you step away.
Because if freedom is the goal, then
Our business gets to work without us, not just because of us.
Curious, have you built that kind of system yet?
Or are you still the glue holding it all together?
👇please share with me below. What’s your current backup plan or the gap you’re noticing?
