I had the feeling when I began the film project, When Lightning Strikes, that life would mimic art and the reverse.
"The next Buddha will be a sangha," a quote by Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh kept popping into my mind along with the idea that the film would be created not by me, but by a collective.
When COVID put plans to complete the film on hold, the footage we shot served as a lighthouse for people having similar experiences to find us -- in this case it was those going through profoundly life altering and mostly debilitating Kundalini Awakenings.
People began to flock to our YouTube channel with comments about how grateful they were we were talking about our experiences and how they now had permission to do the same.
We learned that what people needed most wasn't a film but a community. A place to gather and talk about their experience, to relate in a safe container of sharing where nothing was off limits and all parts were welcomed and embraced.
In that space we learned that people really did want a film, but they wanted to weigh in on it, to know we were representing their best interests and to feel included in the making of it.
And so we are once again in pre-production, this time with our community as our director, our research team and our bottom line.
The media we create is what the community is asking for which then attracts more community and the beautiful cycle of starts over again, gathering energy and an audience that is invested.
Why? Not because we figured out the algorithm that would help us market to them. But because we listened. And responded to what we heard.
Having built this model by accident, but knowing that it was synchronous destiny (we have to trust the river bends!) we realize the power it has to transform lives, communities and maybe even the collective. And we are now helping others do the same.
