Last night was a first for Madrid, a hall of fame induction for five people who have meant a lot to Madrid athletics as the first class of the Madrid Hall of Fame. The hall isn't just for athletics but this was the first time there has been a class. Randy Hinkel, John Paul Mills Sr, Michelle (Galetich) Prange, McKenzie (Knox) Thompson and Rick Thompson were the first class. They were also honored during halftime of Friday night's football game.
Speaking of football, the Tigers hosted the AC/GC Chargers on Friday night and picked up a non-district loss, falling a 33-15 setback.
The two teams exchanged fumbles on their opening drives, Madrid continuing the turnover trend as miscues led to AC/GC leading 14-0 after the opening period. A blocked punt helped the Chargers build a 20-0 lead, and eventually held a 27-0 advantage. Chase Perkins got Madrid on the board late with a yard plunge.
Madrid drew within 12 after another Perkins score in the third quarter, but AC/GC responded with a score. The Tigers mounted some drives late, but the turnover bug continued to give Madrid fits.
The Tigers sit at 3-2 on the season. The next two weeks see Madrid hit the road. They head to Lynnville-Sully on October 3rd, and then go to Martensdale-St. Marys. October 17th will be senior night as they host Colfax-Mingo.
