Gavin Newsom’s War on Girls’ Privacy and the Teen Who Said Enough.
Anaheim, CA At Esperanza High, a junior named Lesley refused to stay silent after a male walked into the girls’ restroom. Students rallied for basic privacy.
Lesley: "And they later told me that that student, the male, was allowed to go into the girls’ bathroom. And that felt really, really unfair to me. And the reason why I started this walkout is because a couple weeks ago, I went into our girls’ bathroom and I saw that a male was in there. And I asked him why he was there, and he told me, “Oh, I identify as trans, I’m a girl.” So I immediately reported it to the squad admin, and I asked why there was a male in there and then I reported it because I did not want boys to be in there. And then after that they told me that they would review it.
I was scared because there’s many cases where females have been taken advantage [of] by males, as they have a physical advantage over females. And because of that I decided that I was not gonna let what the district says keep allowing this injustice. I mean no harm to anyone, I do not advocate for violence, I just speak for the truth. And I hope that my voice can be heard as well as the voices of all the other girls in America, and that this can be the start to something great. Thank you."
