GOLF COURSE ASKS MEMBERS TO CHECK SHOES; GRUBS SUCCESSFULLY FRAME LOCAL GOLFERS

MALVERN, IA ... Fairview Hills Golf Course launched an investigation this week after mysterious patches of damaged turf began appearing on the greens, initially raising suspicions that a golfer may have unknowingly been tearing up the course with a damaged spike.

Members were asked to inspect their shoes immediately.
For several tense hours, every golfer in Malvern was a suspect.
Then someone suggested grubs.

Investigators now believe the tiny underground criminals may have successfully carried out an elaborate false-flag operation, damaging the greens while deliberately leaving evidence that pointed toward golfers.

“They had us checking everybody’s shoes,” one golfer said. “Meanwhile those little bastards were underground the whole time.”

The grubs have not responded to requests for comment and are believed to still be somewhere beneath Fairview Hills.

Course officials have not ruled out additional suspects, including cutworms, beetle larvae, or one golfer who insists the damage “definitely wasn’t there before my putt.”

REAL TALK: Check your spikes anyway. And maybe apologize to them. The shoes appear to have been innocent.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS BIKINI CAR WASH; LOCAL MEN LEARN IMPORTANT LESSON ABOUT ASSUMPTIONS
MALVERN, IA...

The Malvern, Iowa Historical Society is raising money for its new museum, and apparently some local men will support historic preservation under very specific circumstances.

The Society announced a “Bikini Car Wash,” prompting an unusually enthusiastic response from area men who arrived with dirty trucks, cash in hand, and expectations organizers insist were entirely their own.

Those expectations changed when the washing crew arrived ... a group of Malvern women whose combined life experience exceeded 400 years.

“We said bikini car wash,” one volunteer explained. “Nobody said anything about age.”

One father, who brought his son along for what he believed would be a meaningful bonding experience, was overheard quietly admitting:

“I messed up, son. I messed up big time.”

Beyond the car wash, the Malvern Historical Society is building something pretty special.

A new museum is taking shape, alongside the Malvern Digital Archive... a living digital time capsule of Malvern and the communities around us.

It brings together photographs, documents, stories, businesses, families and everyday moments from our past ... while continuing to capture the history we're making today.

Because history isn't something that stopped 100 years ago. We're living it right now.
This is a chance to be part of something that could still be here generations from now... whether that's becoming a member, contributing photos or stories, donating toward the new museum, exploring the archive or simply following along as it grows.

🚨 MALVERN NEWS LIVE WEATHER & TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚨

FARM EQUIPMENT, CONSTRUCTION & STORMS EXPECTED TO SLOW AREA TRAVEL THIS WEEK

MALVERN, IA ... Southwest Iowa residents should prepare for a little bit of everything this week, including thunderstorms, wildly changing temperatures, road construction and the annual migration of extremely large farm equipment traveling approximately 14 miles per hour.

Monday starts warm with highs in the mid-80s and a chance for strong thunderstorms. Temperatures drop considerably Tuesday and Wednesday, with showers possible both days. Thursday appears to offer a brief break before another chance of stronger storms arrives Friday.
MNL Chief Meteorologist Emily Carter described the forecast as “September refusing to commit to a season.”

Meanwhile, area motorists are reminded that harvest season is approaching, meaning tractors, combines, grain carts and other farm equipment will increasingly be sharing local roads.

Highway 34 construction also continues, providing Southwest Iowa drivers with an exciting second opportunity to go nowhere quickly.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time, watch for construction changes and check Iowa 511 for current road conditions.
Officials also remind drivers to use patience around farm equipment, give operators plenty of room and only pass when it is safe.

“Getting somewhere four minutes later is generally preferable to becoming part of the traffic report,” Carter said.

MALVERN EXPECTED TO REACH DANGEROUSLY HIGH LEVELS OF ACTIVITY TODAY

MALVERN, IA ... Residents are being advised to pace themselves today as Malvern prepares to experience activity levels rarely seen outside of county fair week.

Experts are calling the situation “a lot for Malvern.”

At the center of today’s activity is the Mike Wright Memorial Car & Truck Show, running 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at Tee’d Up Tavern.
The annual event honors Mike Wright and raises money for the Mike Wright trade-school scholarship, with music, food and drinks, co****le, raffle items and a silent auction. The raffle is at 3 p.m.

There’s no entry fee and no judging, allowing everyone to enjoy the vehicles without forcing three local men to spend the next six months arguing about a 1972 Chevelle.

But officials warn the car show represents only part of today’s unusually elevated Malvern Activity Index.

Start with breakfast at The Salty Heifer Cafe, grab coffee at Wabash Coffee Co., stop into Mulholland Grocery, eat at Classic Cafe, and eventually make your way to Tee’d Up Tavern or Mezzo Bar for a drink.

A shoutout also goes to Malvern Bank and all the local businesses, organizations and volunteers who continually support events, fundraisers and the community.

Then, just as activity levels begin returning to normal, Iowa State visits #21 Iowa at 6:30 p.m.

By approximately 6:45, several people who spent the afternoon peacefully drinking together downtown are expected to begin questioning each other’s intelligence.

This is normal.

Residents completing breakfast, coffee, the car show, shopping, eating, drinking and the Iowa–Iowa State game will have experienced approximately three normal Malvern Saturdays in one day.

So get out. Support the Mike Wright Memorial and scholarship. Eat local. Shop local. Drink local. See some friends. Look at some cars.
Then get home by 6:30 and yell at the television.

September 11, 2001.

For those who lived through it, it’s one of those rare days where the answer often comes immediately.

Where you were. Who you were with. How you heard. The first television you watched. The phone call you made. The moment you realized something was terribly wrong.

Today, 25 years later, those memories remain.
For many younger people in our community, September 11 is something they’ve only learned about in school, seen in photographs, or heard about from their parents and grandparents.

For the rest of us, it still doesn’t quite feel like history.

EAST MILLS NEW FOOTBALL FIELD NOW UNDEFEATED; DISTRICT REFUSES TO LET ANYONE TOUCH IT

MALVERN, IA... East Mills officially opened its brand-new football field in about the best way possible, with the Wolverines defeating Stanton-Essex 42–28.

The new field is now officially 1–0.

Sources close to Malvern News Live say district officials are already considering several reasonable measures to protect the perfect record, including keeping the gates locked, banning opposing teams and simply declaring the season complete.

Fortunately, the Wolverines appear interested in continuing.

East Mills put up 42 points in the debut, with Khayden Poorker accounting for two passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and 150 rushing yards.
Not a bad way to break in the new place.
And all jokes aside ... take a look at what East Mills has been building.

Last year's impressive new school addition was already a major investment in East Mills students and the future of the district. Now the new football field and track facilities add another huge piece to what has become a pretty remarkable transformation of the East Mills campus.

For a rural Iowa school district, it's genuinely impressive to see.

These aren't projects built for one team or one season. They're investments in students, teachers, athletes, families and the entire East Mills community that will be used for decades to come.

Congratulations to East Mills Schools and everyone who helped make these projects happen.

And a big congratulations to the East Mills Wolverines for opening the new field the right way ... with a 42–28 victory.

New track.
New football field.
First game.
First win.
The place looks pretty damn good at 1–0.

**MALVERN RESIDENTS PREPARE TO HONOR AMERICAN WORKFORCE BY REFUSING TO DO A GODDAMN THING**

MALVERN, IA... Residents across Southwest Iowa are preparing to celebrate Labor Day Monday with the traditional observance of accomplishing as little labor as humanly possible.

Plans reportedly include sitting on decks, grilling meat several hours earlier than medically necessary, drinking something cold and repeatedly saying, “I’m not doing s**t today.”

Local hardware stores are also reporting a sharp increase in Sunday purchases from men who fully intend to spend Labor Day completing a project around the house.

Experts say approximately 8% of those projects will actually begin.

Another 17% will involve standing in the garage looking for something.

The remaining 75% will be postponed until “next weekend.”

By mid-afternoon, residents are expected to enter the ceremonial phase of Labor Day in which someone says, “Can you believe summer’s basically over?” followed by everyone becoming briefly depressed.

Malvern News Live wishes a safe and relaxing Labor Day to everyone who works hard all year ...

And especially to those who plan on doing absolutely none of it tomorrow.
