A little about me...
I am a career public servant. Upon graduation from Purdue University with a degree in chemical engineering, I entered the Air Force serving 20 years as an officer in roles including a KC135 navigator and aero propulsion program management overseeing multi-million-dollar contracts. In 2008, my wife and I both accepted civil service jobs at Arnold AFB. I am currently the Acting Chief of the Engineering Division responsible for developing advanced technology to support the National Defense Strategy. I have extensive experience managing contracts and personnel.

In my various roles at Arnold Engineering and Development Complex (AEDC) I have facilitated scientist and engineering career development, collaborating with local institutions such as the Tullahoma School System to establish internships and scholarships. I have actively recruited many of the young engineers who work at the base and am aware that one of the challenges has been their choice to live in communities other than Tullahoma. My family moved to Tullahoma because of the school system and our daughter, Rachel is a graduate of THS. Her strong educational experience at TCS was instrumental in her recently achieving her goal of becoming a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry.

I know thriving communities are those that focus on providing and maintaining the foundational requirements for success – appropriate and affordable housing, daycare, medical facilities, a strong school system, retail and recreational outlets and a solid infrastructure. My experience would enhance the great work already being accomplished. I look forward to having conversations with the citizens of Tullahoma.

Matthew Bird, Machinist-Beyond New Horizons!
This hands-on program is designed especially for homeschool students and offers an exciting way to explore science beyond the textbook. Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and real-world connections, students will build curiosity, critical thinking skills, and a deeper understanding of STEM topics.
