๐ Disc and Drum Brake Parts Know the Difference! โ
Both disc and drum brakes serve the same purpose to stop your vehicle but they do it in slightly different ways.
๐น Disc Brake Components:
Caliper Assembly: Houses pistons and brake pads.
Brake Pads: Create friction with the rotor (disc) to slow the wheel.
Wheel Hub & Bearing: Support the wheel and allow smooth rotation.
Backing Plate: Provides structural support to the brake components.
๐น Drum Brake Components:
Wheel Cylinder: Pushes the brake shoes outward.
Brake Shoes: Press against the drum to create braking force.
Self Adjuster: Maintains the correct shoe-to-drum clearance.
Parking Brake Cable: Engages the brakes when parked.
Springs & Hardware: Return brake shoes to their original position.
๐ก Fun Fact:
Disc brakes are commonly used in the front wheels for stronger braking, while drum brakes are often used at the rear for parking and cost efficiency.
