Who is WHIP Blues Radio?

Seven years ago, a man that had been in the broadcast industry at that time for over 35 years began a venture to create an internet radio station. The WHIP Radio was born. Since that time, that single station has grown into a network of stations including WHIP Radio, WHIPPET Radio and now, the brand new WHIP Blues Radio. Brett Bertolucci had always had a love for the blues, and the time came that he wanted to dedicate a station to playing the greatest blues on the planet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Some of the greatest Syndicated Blues shows in the world were recruited, in addition to live local broadcasters on the station. We make a commitment to you to continue bringing you the best in Chicago, Delta, Piedmont, Texas, West Coast, and Indie Blues on the Worldwide WHIP Radio Network and beyond. As a matter of fact, as of the end of December 2017, Brett Bertolucci’s 2 hour syndicated show called “Blow Me Away” Blues with Brett Bertolucci will begin airing on WMNH 95.3FM in Manchester, NH and we are looking to expand our station, broadcasters, syndicated shows and word about us across the globe. We need your help though! Successful businesses succeed with the collaboration and help of a team. A team that consists of the background guys and gals doing the tech work and program directing, as well as the on-air-talent bringing their creativity and passion to the airwaves, but we also need YOU! Word of mouth has always been and remains the best advertising medium in the world. Won’t you help us spread the word about WHIP Blues Radio? Give them our website information, our Twitter and Facebook Feeds. Tell them about our mobile radio apps. Talk about the great talent on the air, and how much fun it is to listen. Show them the resources for learning more about the blues with the videos and show information on our website. Tell them about the plethora of knowledge that each and every one of our broadcasters share during every show.

This is the place for the greatest blues on the planet. America’s first true art form. The Blues Baby.... The Blues!

Here is a nice review from Gold Mine Magazine. Austin guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer Forrest McDonald may be 70 but his stinging electric guitar solos are as thunderous as when he started out 53 years ago. You’ve been listening to him for decades and just don’t know it. (That’s him on Bob Seger’s 1979 “Old Time Rock’n’Roll” hit single.) He’s also gone toe-to-toe on stages with Johnny Winter, Duane Allman, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Blues In A Bucket (World Talent Records) by The Forrest McDonald Band Featuring Andrew Black is his 15 CD. He wrote 11 very personal songs but splits the singing with Black and guest Becky Wright. The full horn section is something new for him and adds immeasurably. The stories themselves are from the heart, like “Blue Morning Sun” and “Go To The Light,” written in response to the recent death of his brother from cancer. But it’s not all on the morose end of the blues spectrum. “Boogie Me ‘Til I Drop” opens things with a distinct New Orleans party feel, and “Powerhouse” rocks, but then it’s back to “Misery And Blues.” The title track is uplifting, though, as you can, indeed, put all your “Blues In A Bucket” and throw the bucket away. WHIP Blues Radio thank you for the spins! Forrest McDonald Blues In A Bucket World Talent Records WTR00015 McDonald, who began playing blues in 1964 after meeting Muddy Waters in Harlem, has 15 albums to his credit. At 70, he can run circles around most guitarists…should the need exist. It’s his guitar solo heard on Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll”. He’s swapped licks with the some of the greatest guitarists in the business including Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Over the years he has performed and recorded with such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Roy Gaines, Bobby Womack, Luther Tucker, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others. To say that Blues In A Bucket is a solid contemporary blues album would be true. It is also a world-class endeavor that shows McDonald to be among the best modern or traditional blues performers in the business. He is a mature artist with both a deep knowledge of numerous blues styles, the ability to play at breakneck speed, and the willingness to show restraint. Forrest (guitar & vocal) is joined by Andrew Black (lead vocals tracks1-8, 10, 11), Becky Wright (lead vocals tracks 9, 11), Lee Gammon (bass), Jon Schwenke (bass track 2), John McKnight (drums), Pix Ensign (harmonica), Jimmy King (trumpet & flugelhorn), Norman Franks (saxophones), Matthew Wauchope (piano & organ), Tony Carey (piano & organ tracks 2, 10) and background vocalists Shelene Huey Booker, Romney Sears, Monica Thrower & Jocelyn Ware (cuts 5, 7). This band can leave hardcore blues rockers in the dust or carry it down to the alley…whether that ally’s in Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Austin, Kansas City or elsewhere. Forrest is the equal of any guitarist on the scene, whether he's cutting loose or milking each note for all it's worth. Those who know me know that a lot of what happens on the contemporary blues scene is not my cup of tea, but this album is as comfortable as a well-worn denim. Everyone from blues-rocker to hardcore traditionalist should find Blues In A Bucket enjoyable. – Bill Wilson April 2020 Reviews http://chickenwilson2.blogspot.com/p/april-2020-reviews.html
This is a nice review from Ben Vee Blues Review https://benveeblues.com/category/reviews/ Forrest McDonald Gathers the Blues in a Bucket Forrest McDonald, over his lifetime, has been coast to coast in the United States pursing his dream and providing us with some memorable guitar playing along the way. He jammed with Muddy Waters in New York City as a teenager, rolled out to California and jammed there with Van Halen and Steve Perry in the seventies, played the guitar solo with Bob Seger on the mega hit Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll recording and with Bobby Womack on Roads of Life, and then settled down in Atlanta in the 1990’s. Considered a musician’s musician, but largely unknown by the general music public, Forrest has done a number of recordings with the Forest McDonald Band on his label, World Talent Records, in the years since he began calling Atlanta home. The latest release, Blues In A Bucket, is a stellar album that features a number of talented backing musicians including Andrew Black (vocals), Becky Wright (guest vocals), and Tony Carey (guest keyboards/organ). The album opens with a New Orleans style “down the bayou” tune Boogie Me Til I Drop that channels a bit of Dr. John……loved it!! Blue Morning Sun is a touching song done in remembrance of his brother that he lost recently. The slide guitar work on the tune is absolutely world class and evokes the spirit of the Macon sound of the seventies. The title cut, Blues In a Bucket, is some nice rockin’ blues, and Hard to Lose, Blues in the Basement, and Misery and Blues are just badass low down blues recordings. Going Back to Memphis is a great funky tune with some stellar horn and organ playing. And the album closes like it started with the delicious down the bayou sound of Let the Love in Your Heart.

The Forrest McDonald Band Blues in a Bucket - Overall "Blues in a Bucket" is an exceptional recording with first-singing, superb playing, and excellent ensemble playing. This is certainly a disc that will energize any blues party. The Forrest McDonald Band Blues in a Bucket World Talent Records "Blues in a Bucket" is a new album by singer-songwriter-guitarist Forrest McDonald. Black Jack Ketchum, an Atlanta DJ, writes that "McDonald has been performing and recording earth-shaking, soul-stirring music distilled in the blues for nearly six decades." This CD is his 15th album and dedicated to his brother Steve who passed away in 2019 of cancer. His many credits include recording with Bob Seger and is the guitarist soloing on "Old Time Rock and Roll." Among those heard on this album are vocalists Andrew Black and Becky Wright, bassist Lee Gammon, keyboardist Matthew Wauchope and Tony Carey, drummer John McKnight, and harmonica player Pix Ensign along with a horn section and backup vocalists. McDonald wrote all 11 songs. McDonald impresses as a guitarist with his fiery B.B King-styled guitar lines, and thoughtful, well-constructed solos. Black, a superb soulful blue-eyed vocalist, sings most of the songs. He brings plenty of energy and fervor, whether handling the New Orleans groove of "Boogie Me Till I Drop," and the gutbucket slow blues, "Blues in the Basement." These are terrific, idiomatic blues with Black digging deep in his vocals with superb solos from McDonald. The rhythm section is first-rate throughout. Other standout tracks include "Blues in the Bucket" with its nice groove, "Blue Morning Sun," a song he wrote after his brother passed away, and another intense slow blues, Windy City Blues," where Black sings about going back to Memphis. McDonald is outstanding, as is keyboardist Wauchope with the horns adding atmosphere. "Go To The Light" is a soulful groover with punchy horns and backing vocal chorus. Pix Ensign's harmonica adds flavor behind McDonald's robust vocal on "Misery and Blues." Becky Wright impresses with her forceful vocal on "Powerhouse," with its rock-solid groove and more harmonica. Overall "Blues in a Bucket" is an exceptional recording with first-singing, superb playing, and excellent ensemble playing. This is certainly a disc that will energize any blues party.
