Hi everyone! Lindsey here! I hope you enjoyed this week's episodes of 5 Minutes in the Word with Pastor Ronny Cooksey, which all share a common theme: marriage.
If you missed any of this week's episodes, I've put together a brief recap to help catch you up and reflect on the messages as we head into the weekend.
1️⃣Whose Idea Was Marriage?
Genesis 2:23–24
"Marriage is a BIG deal to God."
"Thank God for your spouse."
Pastor Ronny reminds us that, regardless of what stage or phase our marriage is currently in, we should be thanking God for our spouse.
2️⃣Wives, God's Gifts to Husbands
Ephesians 5:22–24
"There is ZERO difference in our equality, just a difference in our roles. Both are just as important."
Pastor Ronny highlights the role of servant leadership that God has given to men and reminds us that wives are truly gifts to their husbands, who should look to them as equal partners in all things. Wives should lift their husbands up and encourage them to lead for the benefit of the marriage as a whole.
3️⃣Husbands, Servant Leaders
Ephesians 5:25–27
"Men, we have an incredible task before us. We're called to love our wives in the same manner that Christ loved the Church. How do you even begin? It's a CHOICE to put our wives first."
Pastor Ronny explains the great responsibility men have to lead their marriages by using the Word of God in their lives and ministering to their wives and children in order to lead their homes spiritually. As you grow in the Word, so will your family.
Men should be intentional about uplifting their wives, giving them more attention and love than other facets of life. The devil is the enemy of your marriage. Put your wife first, show her love, and let her know that you're grateful for her.
4️⃣Taking Care of Her Like You Take Care of You
Ephesians 5:28–29
"None of us are where we need to be in being the husband our wife needs. We're good at thinking of the things we need; now turn that around and do those things for your wife. God seems to tell us things through our wives to see if we will listen to Him: our manners, our purity, our leadership. Get a PhD degree in your wife, love her, date her, cherish her."
Pastor Ronny walks us through key Scriptures that serve as important reminders of how men can become better husbands to their wives. In Colossians 3, we are reminded not to be bitter toward our wives. In 1 Peter 3, we are instructed to live with our wives in an understanding way. In Ephesians 4, we are reminded not to let anger control us or allow the sun to go down on our anger.
Pastor Ronny closes by reminding wives to encourage their husbands as they attempt to grow in these areas.
5️⃣Love and Respect to the Glory of God
Ephesians 5:31
"The permanence of marriage is clearly taught in Scripture. Make your marriage a marriage forever. Heap praise, love, and respect unto one another. What can you give to your spouse for the glory of God?"
Pastor Ronny encourages wives to build their husbands up and respect them, leaving criticism behind. He also encourages husbands to show love to their wives in the ways their wives need.
We can all use this reminder to build one another up and give each other praise, even when we don't feel like it. Marriage is a spiritual battle, but it is worth everything you put into it.
