Once upon a time, there was a little caterpillar who finally decided to enter its cocoon, ready for the next stage of transformation. But it didn’t expect the process to be harder than it imagined. The cocoon wrapped tightly around its body, and every small movement brought pain. It could hardly breathe. The caterpillar began to complain, "Lord, I’ve tried so hard. Why must I go through all this suffering? Will I ever be able to fly?"
Just as it was about to give up, an old turtle slowly crawled by and asked, "Child, why do you look so distressed?"
The caterpillar gasped, "I want to fly, but the cocoon is too tight. Every struggle hurts so much. I’m too tired—I can’t take it anymore."
The turtle spoke gently, "Child, pain is not a punishment—it’s helping you grow. These struggles are what make your wings strong. Without this pain, you would never be able to fly. No matter how hard the circumstances are, give thanks for them—because these very challenges are shaping your strength and preparing you to soar."
The caterpillar didn’t quite understand and wasn’t fully convinced. But that night, it closed its eyes and whispered a prayer, "God, I don’t fully understand, but I choose to thank You. Thank You for everything You’ve allowed me to go through—both the good and the hard."
With each effort and struggle, its wings slowly began to form, and the cocoon started to crack. Finally, the caterpillar became a butterfly. For the first time, it spread its wet but strong wings and took flight into the sky. Looking back at the cocoon, its heart was filled with gratitude. It understood then—those pains and struggles had shaped the freedom it now enjoyed. And its gratitude opened the way for even greater blessings from God.
Today I ask you—are you willing to be like that caterpillar, turning every struggle and challenge in your life into a reason for thanksgiving? Whether in good times or bad, will you learn to thank God and see His blessings?
If you’re willing, put Amen.
