🇺🇸🇮🇹 OFFICIAL STATEMENT 🇮🇹🇺🇸
ITALIAN AMERICANS BUILT NEW YORK.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW OUR HISTORY TO BE ERASED.
To every elected official who believes they can rewrite New York’s history:
Think again.
Italian Americans did not simply live in New York.
We built New York.
Our fathers and grandfathers laid the brick, carved the stone, erected the steel, dug the tunnels, built the bridges, raised the skyscrapers, protected the streets, answered the alarms, defended this nation in uniform, opened businesses, built neighborhoods, raised families, and helped transform New York City into one of the greatest cities in the world.
Our blood, sweat, sacrifice, and determination are permanently embedded in the foundation of this city.
You cannot erase Little Italy.
You cannot erase our heritage.
You cannot erase our contributions.
And you certainly cannot erase our pride.
History does not belong to politicians.
It belongs to the people who lived it.
If an elected official chooses to ignore or diminish the contributions of Italian Americans, then they are choosing to ignore a chapter of New York’s history that helped make this city what it is today.
We reject any effort to minimize, overlook, or erase the legacy of the millions of Italian Americans whose work, sacrifice, and patriotism helped build this city and strengthen this nation.
Respect is not something we beg for.
It is something our ancestors earned.
Today, we honor them by refusing to remain silent.
WE BUILT THIS CITY.
WE WILL DEFEND OUR HISTORY.
WE WILL DEFEND OUR HERITAGE.
WE WILL BE RESPECTED.
WE THE PEOPLE STILL MATTER.
