Update from the City

At approximately 8:24 p.m., Mankato Police were dispatched to the 500 block of North 4th Street for a report of gunshots fired. Officers arrived at the scene to find multiple bullet holes in a residence. There were people inside the home at the time of the incident but no injuries were reported. Investigators are asking residents and businesses in the area to check surveillance video for any suspicious activity around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or contact the Mankato Department of Public Safety at 507-387-8725. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

🚨Reports of Gųn Shots🚨

Multiple messages coming in of reports of a possible shooting in the Washington Park neighborhood. One person stated hearing 6-7 consecutive shots.

4th Street is blocked off by police from Mulberry to Madison Ave.

Avoid the area, large police presence on scene.

MANKATO: At Adams Street and Victory Drive, two SUVs were involved in a head-on collision. One driver reportedly experienced a possible seizure after the crash and was transported by ambulance to MCHS Mankato with minor injuries.

The victims in yesterday's crash on Highway 22 south of Mankato have been identified.

Mike Schoeb, 56 of Amboy, was transported to Mankato with non-life threatening injuries.

Mary Hlavac, 67, of North Mankato died of her injuries.

The crash occurred around 5pm on the bridge overpassing the Le Sueur River.

Shoeb was driving southbound and Hlavac was driving northbound when the two vehicles collided head-on.

There will be a road closure in that location from 10:30-11:30am this morning for law enforcement to reconstruct the crash site.

Head-to-head crash on highway 22 just south of Mankato, near the Le Sueur river.

Bridge is closed and both northbound and southbound lanes are completely blocked.

The suspect is in custody

UPDATE: Authorities identify homicide victim and suspect

Mankato Police have arrested A’Quan Kaishaid Laurence Thorton, 23, of Mankato, in connection with the shooting death of Muridi Hassan Hussein, 27, also of Mankato.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. in the 400 block of Holly Lane. Following the shooting, the victim’s vehicle was driven to a parking lot off Star Street, where Hussein was pronounced deceased.

The investigation remains ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the incident to call 911.

Mankato Police are being assisted in the investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force.

At 9:30 a.m. this morning Mankato Department of Public Safety was contacted on reports of a shooting in the area of Holly Lane. Upon arrival, authorities found a deceased person inside a vehicle on the 1600 block of Madison Avenue. It is believed that the victim drove to that area before succumbing to his injuries. Authorities arrested a suspect a short time later and also recovered a firearm. The investigation is ongoing and will involve law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions. The public is not at risk as a result of this incident since the suspect in custody is believed to be responsible. More information will be released as the investigation continues, such as, identifying the victim and the suspect.

Police appear to have someone in custody on Holly Lane; the area they were responding to after the shooting at Dunkin' this morning.

Unconfirmed if this is the shooter, or related.

Updated shortly before 11am that their is one female and one male in custody.
