Doesn’t get much better than this.

Temperature averages appear to be WELL BELOW normal over the next 6-10 days. Highs could struggle to reach the 80’s next week with lower humidity.

I’ve got the best boat captain out there.

It’s gorgeous out for most of us, especially here on Beaver Lake! Look out for a few showers tomorrow morning.

Some of you could deal with a few overnight showers and storms too, especially in eastern Arkansas. Still looking for some cooler weather next week.

Looking over temperature guidance for next week.

Here’s a look at next Wednesday morning... 👀

FWIW, the GFS model is typically bias on the cool side. However, this definitely has my interest. Remember, these are temperatures not dew points.

Southwest Arkansas is dealing with some very heavy rainfall this morning.

Radar estimates all point to around 10-11 inches of rainfall near Dierks in Howard County. There is likely many areas, especially low lying, that are experiencing flooding.

Be safe out there!

COOLER more dry air moves in early next week.

I love the consistency of the latest model data for early next week. Check out the dew points in the graphic below (50's and 60's). This will create some much more comfortable conditions, similar to what we recently experienced.

Just hold on for this week and relief is on the way!

Mixed bag of rain chances today, with a limited severe weather risk.

Don’t take these model graphics for the gospel, I just included them to give everyone an idea for today. Pretty much everyone has a shot at some rainfall at some point.

Regardless of the rain/cloud cover, it will still warm up today with some pretty bad humidity.

Probably the hottest day of the year in store later this afternoon.

High resolution models suggest high 90’s for most of us. Wouldn’t be shocked if someone saw a 100 degree air temperature reading.

Heat index values will be way up there too. Take care of yourself.

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that it's extremely hot and it could be worse tomorrow. Expect the hot conditions to stick around through this week too.

HOWEVER, the 8-14 day range looks pretty good. In fact, there are even signs of another good cool down? We'll see!

Some pesky showers and thunderstorms across northwest Arkansas.

This actually comes as a bit of a surprise, high resolution data did not suggest this last night. This is a perfect example of how forecasting weather can be so tough, even with quick and normally dependable models.

Nonetheless, enjoy the rain and cooler temperatures. Most of us are warming up pretty quick.

After adding Georgia and Florida today, we (Arkansas Razorbacks) now have the nationals toughest schedule. This isn’t necessarily uncommon, as we already play in the toughest conference in America.

I have faith in Coach Pittman and our boys, but this is going to be a tough season. Go Hogs!

The thunderstorms moving into western Arkansas have a history of producing wind damage.

There’s also a ton of rain in these things, much like last night. Flooding could be an issue where storms persist. Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued in eastern Oklahoma.

What are the gas prices in your town? I’m generally curious.

Data states the national average is currently $2.10 a gallon. However, I feel like that’s pretty high compared to most Arkansas towns.

Pretty quiet for the most part today, but changes are coming.

We should notice a few scattered showers/storms later today first across NW Arkansas and the River Valley. Expect activity after 1-2 PM today into the evening. This complex may survive into central and southern Arkansas late tonight.

Probably some more widespread rain/storms tomorrow.

Enjoy the weather today, it’s pretty nice out. We will gradually return to reality with a warming trend into the weekend. Yes, that means the heat and humidity will be returning.

Here’s a four day temperature outlook out Little Rock AFB. I used it due to our capitals central location, as this should span well for most of us.

I’m ready for fall.

How’s everyone enjoying the weather? Perfect out there tonight.

It’s always good to see blue on the graphics during August.

Tomorrow evening is going to be perfect with lower temperatures and very dry air (50-60 dew points maybe a few 40’s?). Any evening outdoor plans will be awesome!

Expect widespread temps in the 70’s and 80’s too!

Be on the lookout for some rain today as showers and storms spark along an incoming cold front. This is a good thing!

The incoming front will help keep us cooler than average over the next few days.

08/02/2020

Lead Hill (Boone County) and Mena (Polk County) both dropped to 59 degrees this morning!

How about that for early August? We will see some more of this over the coming days.

Loving the lower humidity!

Who is ready for some of this?

Model data is still hinting at some VERY dry air for early August. This could be maximized by Tuesday afternoon.

Normally August is very warm with plenty of moisture, leading to very uncomfortable humid conditions. With dew points in the 50's, it will be a completely different story.

While it will still be warm outside, conditions will be rather nice and enjoyable compared to our usual humid mess.

The severe weather threat today has shifted to southeast Arkansas. I would suspect most of the stronger storms to occur later today.

Models haven’t been very trustworthy, so we’ll just have to see how storms evolve. Damaging winds are the main concern.

As expected, severe thunderstorm warnings stretch from Fort Smith south to the AR/TX border. Some of you have picked up a bunch of rain and quick!

Expect some gusty winds and heavy rainfall as these storms move in! Tornado risk is very low.

Please send me any reports you have (includes images/videos).

I’d expect the strongest storms tonight across western Arkansas. When they arrive, they could be loud and full of rain.

Tornado risk isn’t high, but the damaging wind risk will be. Some of you will be asleep so leave the phones on for any alerts.

Flash flooding could be an issue where storms progress slowly.

Discovering a Passion

Growing up in central Oklahoma, I was afforded a front row seat to some of the most wild weather. I witnessed insane lightning displays, large hail and even tornadoes. After moving back to western Arkansas, it didn’t change. As all of you know, in this region of the country, wild weather is simply a way of life.

Throughout growing up I never lost my passion. This developed into a passion as I grew older and began studying weather more and more. Upon entering the risky business of “storm chasing” I really began to develop the love I have for the weather we experience. We simply don’t know enough and the science amazes me every single day.

Weather never gets old and I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and learn something new. I hope you enjoy following my own journey in covering and exploring the weather we experience every day.
