Before you give up on your marriage, read this!
I know you are tired.
Tired of repeating yourself.
Tired of having the same argument.
Tired of feeling like you are the only one trying.
And maybe lately you have been asking yourself, “Is this marriage even worth fighting for anymore?”
Before you make that final decision, I want you to ask yourself a few questions.
Have we really tried to fix the problem, or have we only been fighting about it?
Have I clearly told my spouse what is hurting me, or am I expecting them to figure it out?
Are we dealing with something that cannot be repaired, or have pride, resentment and poor communication simply created distance between us?
Sometimes marriage gets difficult, not because love is completely gone, but because two people have been hurting for so long that they no longer know how to reach each other.
So before you give up, talk.
Not to win.
Not to prove who is right.
Talk to understand each other.
Apologize where you need to apologize.
Listen without preparing your defense.
Go back and remember what brought you together in the first place.
Get counseling if you need it. Pray together if you can. Ask for help before making a permanent decision based on a painful season.
And most importantly, both of you must be willing to change. One person cannot carry a marriage forever.
Now hear me clearly: I am not telling anyone to remain in an abusive or dangerous marriage. Protecting yourself is not the same as giving up.
But if there is still love, respect, safety and willingness from both sides, don't allow one difficult season to make the final decision for your entire marriage.
Some marriages don't need another argument.
They need another chance.
Before you walk away, make sure you have truly tried to find your way back to each other.
