Alaska — land of bears, eagles, otters, moose, landscapes, and zero concept of bedtime 😵‍💫

I went there to photograph wildlife. Instead, I also lost track of time, my sleep schedule, and possibly my grip on reality. The sun never really sets, the animals don’t wear watches, and my body had no idea what time zone it was in. But it was fun and full of unforgettable views!

Some things I learned.

1. Coastal Brown Bears are just giant dogs
2. Otters are too adorable for their own good
3. Puffins have 2 speeds: Majestic pose, and faster than the speed of light
4. Moose are only awake between 4AM - 6AM
5. Eagles are EVERYWHERE

A few early BEAR favorites from Alaska! 🐻

At one point we were within 20 yards of a Mom and her three yearlings - such a fun experience!

Couple fun facts we learned

1. Coastal brown bears will eat up to 60lbs of Sedge grass per day which tastes like cilantro - our guide made us try it

2. Bears sometimes eat too much to the point where their belly is too big so they dig a hole in the beach to put their belly into it so they can actually lay flat on the ground - thus making bears my spirit animal 😂

If you find yourself in Alaska and want a very eye opening and memorable experience - definitely consider doing a brown bear guided trip. You get on the ground with the bears and see them up close and personal in their own habitat. After about 20 minutes, you feel so comfortable that you think you can pet them. Definitely don’t pet the bears, but you get the idea 🤣

There’s something humbling about standing in the heart of Alaska, watching over 40 Brown Bears roam free… majestic, powerful, totally at peace…

And then there’s me — layered in rain gear, clutching a camera, and mentally ranking my odds of outrunning Grant Webster Photo.

But moments like this remind you: Nature is wild, beautiful, and probably sizing you up as part of the food chain.

10/10 would risk it again. 🐻

Ever wonder what it looks like when a stick gives up on forest life and starts a career as a minimalist art installation?

Found this twiggy masterpiece floating in the Boundary Waters like it had an existential crisis and said, “You know what? I am the art.”

Yep. Drove 5 hours, Paddled 7 miles, hiked 2 portages and ended up photographing this stick... And ended up being one of my favorite photos from the trip. Not sure what that says about me 😅

🌌 Traded the Big City Lights for Mother Natures Lights 🌌

Turns out Mother Nature knows how to throw a better light show than I ever could with a flashlight and poor decision-making.

📸 Photo 1: Driftwood and green fire in the sky — or as I call it, nature’s glow stick rave.

📸 Photo 2: Rocks, reflections, and a splash of purple. Like a Bob Ross painting but colder and with more mosquitos.

📸 Photo 3: The sky showing off so hard even the lake had to stop and admire it.

Huge thanks to northern Minnesota for showing off again — and for the reminder that sometimes all you need is a flashlight and a camera to feel tiny (and totally inspired).

Would highly recommend, 10/10, would get bit by a mosquito again.

I had the opportunity to spend a few nights in the boundary waters. First time and definitely won’t be my last.

For a brief moment in time, I was one of a very select few to see this exact sunrise. No cell service. No social media. No noise. No distractions. Just enjoying the scenery.

It was ~40 degrees. The air was crisp, but the sun was warm. The lake was calm and I could hear birds chirping with the occasional splash in the water from a fish jumping. I was doing something I love. It was peaceful, and it was refreshing.

Minnesota sure is looking different these days 😂

I’ve been digging through past trips and editing photos I hadn’t previosuly shared. This is a photo of the San Giovanni church in Val di Funes in the Dolomites. The goal was to get this photo with an intense dark sky or clouds, but instead it was 75 degrees and Sunny. Andy the photographers was bummed, but Andy the tourist was happy 😂

Anyway - I’ll see what other photos I can dig up.
