Summer peaches are having their moment, and I couldn’t resist sharing this one a little early. 🍑

Our Summer Peach Parfait layers juicy, lightly cooked peaches with peach jam and a creamy blend of fresh cream, Greek yogurt, and vanilla. Add a little crumbled graham cracker or amaretti for crunch, finish with fresh mint, and you have one of those beautifully simple late-summer desserts that tastes every bit as good as it looks.

This recipe is also a first look at something new coming to Basil & Salt Magazine — our Sunday Dinner feature, posting each Friday with recipes and inspiration for slowing down, gathering around the table, and making something worth staying awhile for.

More on Sunday Dinner soon.

For now, I thought this peach beauty deserved an early appearance. 🍑

Classic New York Cheesecake — rich, creamy, and exactly the kind of dessert that earns a permanent place in the recipe box.

Our recipe gives you two ways to build the base: a traditional graham cracker crust or a buttery shortbread crust, along with the tips you need for that smooth, dense New York-style texture.

And because sometimes cheesecake needs just a little something extra, we’ve included a bonus blueberry compote recipe for spooning over the top.

Golden, wild, and worth the hunt

There’s something about finding chanterelles that makes autumn feel officially underway. We’re heading into the woods to talk about where these prized mushrooms grow, what to look for when identifying them, and how to harvest them responsibly—then bringing them back to the kitchen for something warm, simple, and very much of the season.

Bright citrus, floral St-Germain, and just enough sparkle to keep things interesting. 🍸

The Gin Kumquat Spark is one of those cocktails that feels effortless but still has a little personality — fresh kumquats muddled with sugar, gin, St-Germain, and a splash of club soda to finish.

It’s crisp, lightly sweet, and exactly the kind of pour I want as late summer begins leaning toward autumn.

Gin Kumquat Spark
1½ oz gin
¾–1 oz St-Germain
3 kumquats, halved
1 tsp sugar
2–3 oz club soda

Muddle the kumquats with sugar, add gin and St-Germain, shake with ice, strain, then top with club soda. Garnish with fresh kumquat rounds.

Cheers to citrus season. 🍊🍸

Crispy edges, tender centers, plenty of rosemary. 🍂

These Crispy Rosemary Hasselbacks are deceptively simple: thin-slice the potatoes without cutting all the way through, brush generously with olive oil, season with sea salt, and roast at 425°F for 45–50 minutes.

Halfway through, baste them with melted butter for deeper flavor and those beautifully crisp, golden edges. Finish with fresh rosemary as soon as they come out of the oven.

An easy side for late-summer dinners now—and one we’ll be carrying straight into autumn.

This Cinnamon Apple Butter brings all the warmth of early autumn to the kitchen, with a little twist on our classic recipe. Rich with apples and cinnamon, it’s perfect spread over warm toast, spooned into oatmeal, layered onto pancakes, or tucked into your favorite pastries.

WAIT! 🛑 Don't plant your garlic yet!! 🧄 Wait until the late fall, about one or two weeks after the first killing frost. Garlic does best if it can experience a “dormancy” period of colder weather (at least 40˚F). When planted in the fall, garlic bulbs have time to develop healthy roots before temperatures drop, but not enough time for the garlic to form top growth 🧄 Get more garlic tips here: Almanac.com/Plant/Garlic
