Jackson took his first charter aboard the Sunshine express out of Rose Marina Marco Island Greg Schuler was so helpful over the years in helping Jackson Boggs become a great fisherman. Thank you Greg and we are glad you’re back on the water friend.

🦈 A Shark Is Built to Feel the World Around It!

One of my favorite parts of what we do is giving kids the chance to actually learn about sharks up close — not just see one.

In this video, I showed this young Jackson two incredible things about a shark.

👋 First, feel the skin.

Run your hand from the shark’s head toward its tail and the skin feels surprisingly smooth.

Now gently go the opposite direction — tail toward the head — and it feels like sandpaper!

That’s because shark skin is covered with thousands of microscopic, tooth-like scales called dermal denticles. They point toward the tail and help water flow efficiently across the shark’s body while it swims.

⚡ Then there’s the shark’s incredible sensory system.

Those tiny pores around a shark’s head and snout are connected to specialized sensory organs called the Ampullae of Lorenzini. They allow sharks to detect extremely weak electrical fields produced by other living animals — even helping them locate prey they may not be able to see.

Think about that for a second: a shark doesn’t just see, smell and hear what’s around it — it can sense electricity!

That’s the kind of experience we want kids to remember. Right here in Marco Island, FL.

The more kids learn about these incredible animals, the more they understand why sharks deserve our respect and protection. 🦈🌊
