Your story is a part of the Job to Be Done. Hear me out.
Yes, creating the right experience through the right features, ease of use, and support is key. Nothing is going to make up for a bad product or service experience.
But how do I know that you will continue on the path of building the kind of experience I came to know your company to produce? What if I don't know your company at all and I'm giving you a shot for the first time?
I need to know why you're doing it AND I need to know what you're made of.
Your story tells me both of those things.
Your why comes out in what made you decide it was time to build something new in the world.
What you're made of comes out in the journey you took to get it off of the ground.
Both of these things tell me what to expect from you in the future because your story tells me what matters to you.
For instance, Steve Jobs' story and journey told us that he valued ease of use, beauty, and creativity. That has animated Apple products from the beginning, and whenever they DON'T do that, we view it as out of character. It's not like them.
Why are you doing what you're doing? What does your journey communicate to buyers that says they can trust that you will deliver the kind of experience they're looking for?
Knowing those things could be what gets them to let go of their anxieties and habits and buy from you.
Tell your story.
