When are we going to learn that Freedom of Speech isn't the same as Freedom from Consequences?

You can say/do whatever you want in the name of freedom of speech, however, there are consequences for your actions. Standing up for your beliefs is in part doing so, regardless of the consequences. You believe in something so strongly that consequences don't matter and you accept them, come what may.

No one is trying to silence your freedom of speech (or very few at most). They are, however, holding you accountable for your actions.

The suppression of free speech is spreading through the private sector.

Berkeley Students Protest Exam, Demand ‘Take Home Essay’ Because White Privilege And Stuff

There are a lot of horrible, heart-breaking things happening around the world, and yes, it makes day-to-day hard. Extremely hard.

Going back to school as an older student, I've learned this the hard way. Younger students are more likely to not have serious medical problems, they don't have animals or a house to take care of, they more than likely don't have huge amounts of relatives or friends passing away.

Last semester, I couldn't handle medical problems, losing loved ones, and going to school. Instead of protesting during a test, I went through proper channels of the school to have an emergency withdrawal, and 7 months later, still deal with the effects from it.

Some days are still rough to go to school this semester. However, it's not up to the professor to lessen my stress by eliminating tests. It's up to me to find a balance between life and this educational path, that I chose to go on and continue on. There will always be stress in life and less than desired circumstances. The trick is learning how to deal with them and juggle them all.

Having watched Dan Rather on The CBS Nightly News as a kid, I always regarded him as one of the last upstanding, non-partial news anchors - somewhat along the lines of Walter Cronkite. Respected, articulate, reporting the news rather than creating it or inserting his own opinion.

Reading his words below made my heart sink. It's like a parent telling their child, "I'm not mad; just disappointed". That feeling was the worst. Our country's leadership and the ones who voted for it are a huge disappointment..., and it truly breaks my heart.
