Beginning May 28th, Southwest Airlines will implement bag fees for the first time in its 54-year history, marking a significant change as they were previously the only airline to allow two checked bags for free.

However, Rapid Rewards A-List Preferred members and those booking Business Select fares will continue to receive two complimentary checked bags. A-List members will be entitled to one free checked bag, while Rapid Rewards credit card holders will receive a "credit" for one bag (it's unclear if "credit" means anything different from free).

Although specific bag fees have yet to be announced, they are expected to be competitive with other airlines, likely around $35 per bag, per flight. Additionally, Southwest will introduce a new "Basic" fare option that offers less flexibility than current choices.

Travelers should note that this policy applies to bookings made on or after May 28th, so if you're planning a trip, it's wise to secure your reservations before that date.

Starting January 8, 2025, travelers from the US and outside Europe will need a new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK, including for transit. This applies to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The ETA is a digital permit for visits lasting up to 6 months. Approval can take 24 hours to 3 days or longer, so it's advisable to apply at least 3 weeks before travel. The application fee is £10 (around $12 USD) per person, including infants and children. Applicants must provide a passport, a digital photo, and travel details

The ETA is linked to your passport and is valid for multiple trips over 2 years or until your passport expires. Note that this is separate from the EU's upcoming ETIAS program, which has no confirmed start date.

To apply, use only the official Gov.uk website or the UK ETA app.
