I descend from a number of Mennonite and Brethren/Dunkard families in eastern Fairfield County and northern Hocking County: Stemen, Beery, Miller, Mericle, Blosser, and others. I've worked for the past few years on the history of the Rush Creek Brethren congregation in the area. Many of my ancestors were part of this in the early 19th century. The Congregation had three meeting houses in the second half of the nineteenth century, one just south of Bremen in Rushcreek Township, and two more in Marion Township, Hocking County.

I've written up my research in a series of blog posts. I'm very interested in connecting with others who descend from this community and especially in additional historical sources/photos that might exist about this religious community.

Anyone finding some great Morels out there?
Just heard about an 8.1 oz morel found in Athens county! That's a $40 mushroom right there. Check that out in the comments.

It’s that time of year again—mushroom hunting season is here! One of the fan favorites in Ohio is morel mushrooms. These mushrooms like loose soil packed with humus (organic material), plenty of moisture, and decaying plant stuff—think rotting trees like elm, cottonwood, ash, aspen, oak, and tulip poplar. You can forage for mushrooms in many ODNR properties. Check out the locations below, and happy hunting!
