Did you know the Southern Sierra Miwuk people have been petitioning the federal government for over 30 years to be federally recognized? They recently received a proposed finding from the Office of Federal Acknowledgement (OFA) that they are not a Tribal community. I interviewed Irene Vasquez, newly elected Secretary to the American Indian Council of Mariposa County (the nonprofit organization of the Southern Sierra Miwuk) to ask her about this proposed finding. We also discussed her life and personal path, which returned her back home to Mariposa. During this informative and sometimes emotional interview, Irene requests the assistance of the our listeners to write to the OFA (see https://www.southernsierramiwuknation.org/get-involved?fbclid=IwAR3eUqsxWci5esxTYus7wimKm1YRe_QG9cYMXSiKz-rRMi3nprZOTthuRUc). The show airs Wednesdays at 9pm and Sundays at 11am. Please tune in to KRYZ LPFM at 98.5 or listen live online at https://www.kryzradio.org/.

Hi Friends of Circle West! KRYZradio.org will be hosting their first LIVE on air fundraiser today beginning at 11am! So tune in for LIVE on air music and interviews. It should be a fun time!! If you can, I highly recommend investing in community-driven, rural media - even if you live outside of Mariposa County. Helping to elevate the voices of people who exist often in the background results in some interesting stories and experiences. For example, Circle West has interviewed Tribal Leaders, local artists, small-town authors, veterans, farmers, a former Apollo Mission engineer, a Holocaust survivor and even a Hollywood hairdresser! That is a truly amazing collection of stories by people, often quietly living their lives, you can find on community radio. Wow. I love it. Because you are fans of this show, I am going to give you a sneak peek of a surprise I plan to offer today during my interview. Anyone becoming a member during my interview today between 12:45 and 1:15, will get a FREE Circle West hat. That is right - free hat with the logo of that gorgeous red tail hawk soaring after making its medicine wheel. Become a member today!

Circle West begins its 2018 season with some excellent stories to make you laugh, love, think and even cry sometimes. This month, Heather interviews Greg Ennis, a founding staff member of the Wi-Fi Alliance. More than a convenience at your local coffee shop, Wi-Fi has implications for solving communications and life challenges world-wide. Greg discusses the early days of this technology as well as his personal story. He is also an accomplished musician! Tune in tonight at 9pm or Sunday 1/28 at 11am to listen on KRYZradio.org or in town on 98.5 LP FM.

Have fun today at 11am on KRYZradio.org or, if in town, 98.5 LP FM! And, if it is your holiday, Happy Thanksgiving!
