Library Refresh Day πŸ₯³

Added some Banned Books plus Spooky Season πŸ‘» Reads today. Plus some new Halloween πŸŽƒ decorations, including a set of solar Jack O'Lantern lights!

I also did a bit more work on the library base, re-leveling it and swapping out the bricks for pavers. I'm sure my Passion Project will always be a work in progress as I'm always wanting to add more to it.

Swipe on through to see the fresh reads added today. There are currently 50 πŸ“š books in the library, so stop on by to pick your favorites!

The Little Free Library is empty thanks to the abundance of books banned.....

Wait. What? It's 2025, surely books aren't being challenged and banned? WRONG!

The American Library Association has reported an increase in book banning. Data show that, in 2024, there were 2,452 unique books challenged. Books are being targeted at an increasing rate, even to the point one Congregation was urged by the pastor to remove books they found offensive from public libraries. That's stealing, plain and simple.

In honor of Banned Books Week October 5-11 I urge you to stand up for your right to read! Sign a petition against book bans, add a banned book to a Little Free Library, attend a Freedom to Read Event, and get involved any way you can.

πŸ‘‰ Don't worry, Gram's Garden LFL is fully restocked with books. Including many Banned ones. Keep your eye out for the restock post later!

Coffee and Curently Reading β˜•οΈπŸ“š

As a huge fan of Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' I just had to have the hardcover special editions of the Sally books. Sprayed edges? Heck, yeah!

I saved the reading of them for Spooky Season, of course. Long Live the Pumpkin Queen is the first in the duo, which I started last night. Thirty pages in and liking the writing so far. It's not Tim Burton, but the author has captured the ambiance of Halloween Town, and the iconic characters, well.

October 5-11 is Banned Books Week and Little Free Library Stewards everywhere are stepping up to raise awareness about the uptick in Banned and Challenged Books!

Did you know that, in 2024, there were 2,452 unique books challenged? This was the third highest total ever reported by the American Library Association.

Censorship isn't the hallmark of Freedom. It's the exact opposite. Free People Read Freely. And choose for themselves what's appropriate and what's not.

Blurb: For the rulers of Ravengale, there is only us and them...until the rule of law becomes the path to destruction.

As princess of Ravengale, Satima is bound by her father's rule to sit back as others compete in the Challenge and watch the champions travel to the human realm to shelter the innocents from the monsters of the Third World. But the Book of Life dictates a path for her that defies the laws of Ravengale and she temporarily vacates her throne to fight for humanity, a choice that will change the destiny of her world and beyond.

As Satima is thrust into a tragic battle, death will touch her in the most intimate of ways, driving her into the path of her father's enemy, the ancient and powerful vampire king. Toren is as gorgeous as he is a ruthless leader, and despite Satima's caution, the vampire makes her blood run hot, and her body hotter. But in the throes of passion, there is a dark history between their worlds, a darker one between Toren and her father. One wrong move, and everything Satima has known and loved will be shattered.

BOOK TOUR SPOTLIGHT πŸ₯³

Ready for a real life, non-celebrity memoir? Then grab yourself a copy of Patti Frenette's 'Sorpresa (Surprise), pour a glass of wine 🍷 or Sweet Tea 🍡 , and cozy up on the front porch with your feet up for a while.

Subtitled 'A not-so-famous story of life and s*x at 80' , Frenette's blend of Midwestern stubborness and Texas boldness helped her create a life worth writing about. A Fashionista lifestyle of luxury travel, fine dining, multiple romances and novel worthy experiences. The writing is sprinkled with humor, a few shocking bits (to her daughter at least), and a matter-of-factness which big celebrity memoirs often lack.

Perfect for fans of:

🌾 Fashionista Lifestyle
🌸 Indy Memoirs
🌻 Success Stories

Check out the newly improved library!

πŸ¦‰ New Guide Post to help travelers find their way. (The cement is still drying so please don't shake the sign!)

🐦 Brickwork beneath the library to raise it up a bit, plus improvements to the stand itself.

❀️ Found a few stitched hearts leftover from an upcycling project & decided to pop them in for visitors to take (They're on the door)

All the books are back inside and there's loads of great titles to choose from, so stop on by!

πŸ‘‰ Which fantasy world listed on the guide post would you travel to first?

PSA: We're working on the library today, so all books are in a bin next to the driveway. You're welcome to stop by and pick out what you'd like to read this week!

Also, thank you to whomever left a stack of books in the library. Donations are very appreciated! Please don't cram them in if the shelves are full though! It damages the other books. There's always empty space on the bottom shelf where donated books may be put, if there's no room on the other shelves.

Happy Sunday, Bookish Peeps!
