Believe it or not, there is a risk for severe weather tonight into Friday morning. Gusty winds to 60mph are the primary hazard within any showers or storms. There is a low chance for a quick brief tornado as well, primarily for areas close to the Illinois border.

Main timeframe appears to be after 7pm tonight.

How do you know it’s winter in Indiana? It’s sickness season! The flu is going around across the region, with Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan reporting very high levels, and Illinois and Wisconsin reporting high levels of cases.

Hawaii has snow!

To the surprise of many, higher elevations of Hawaii (in this case Mauna Kea) see snow regularly in winter months, so this is nothing new!

What would be rare and certainly unheard of, is if we were seeing snow at lower elevations like Hilo, or Honolulu.

📣 Additional snow accumulations are expected tonight. Be very careful traveling tonight for any new year parties! Snow will be in from NW Indiana around 2:00pm ET and overspread northern Indiana by this evening.

*Potential snow squall*
A narrow but potent snow band (squall) may develop along the cold front this evening. This snow band will move from north to south after 6:00pm ET starting near the IN/MI border. This band will be capable of heavy snowfall rates and winds up to 30+mph. Use extra caution if traveling tonight!
