Chelsea Taylor, 35, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. She was born September 9, 1990, in Ridgeway, Virginia, to the late Darrell and Debbie (Maze) Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Sara Taylor, who raised Chelsea as if she were a daughter.

Chelsea will be forever remembered by her daughter, Cassidy Ives; sisters, Samantha Taylor and Heather Davis; aunt, Cindy Miller; and her lifelong significant other, Brian Goins.

Kenneth Wayne Barksdale (also known as “Rob” or “Kenny”) passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the age of 59. Born in Martinsville, Virginia, on April 10, 1967, he was the beloved son of Linda G. Barksdale and the late Kenneth Wayne Robertson.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Amy Barksdale, and Henry and Lucille Lewis; and maternal grandparents, Jack and Maggie Robertson.

Kenneth attended Martinsville High School and loved to work whenever he was able to do so. He loved watching sports and was an avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers. He was also a fan of Superman. Above all, he loved his family and spending time with them.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his brothers, Jeffrey Barksdale (Patricia and Stacey), Tony Moore; aunts, Eva (Mag) Taylor of Greensboro, North Carolina, Jackie Jamison (Wayne) of Martinsville, Virginia; uncle, Everett Lewis of Chicago, Illinois; nephew, Kelly Barksdale; special girlfriend, Linda Jordon of Roanoke, Virginia, and numerous cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel, officiated by Stephen Campbell.

Viola Hamlett, 69, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at her home. She was born October 13, 1956, in South Boston, Virginia, to the late Robert Hamlett and Ada Lee Childs Hamlett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Hallie Bell Hamlett; and brothers, Thomas Hamlett, Daniel Hamlett, Charles Hamlett, Robert Hamlett, and Samuel Hamlett.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed football, fishing, and participating in football pools. She was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and also loved playing cards. She had a wonderful sense of style and especially enjoyed clothes and sunglasses, proudly building quite a collection over the years. Known for being the life of the party, she brought energy and personality wherever she went. She was never afraid to speak her mind and was known for being strong-willed and opinionated. Above all, she was loved by many, and her vibrant personality and unforgettable presence will be deeply missed.

She is survived by one daughter, Shelley Hamlett (Jermell); two sons, Tommie Lee Hamlett and Quinton Hamlett (Africa); 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; special friend, Nehemiah King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service – Martinsville Chapel. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home, 230 Terrace Garden Dr. Apt #1, Collinsville, Virginia 24078 from Thursday, September 3, 2026 to Sunday, September 6, 2026 2:00 PM-8:00 PM.

Petronila Reyes Sandoval, 91, of Glade Hill, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. She was born January 19, 1935, in Managua, Nicaragua, to the late Atanacio Reyes and Susana Flores.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Javier Penaflores; two sisters, Isabel Barahona and Eva Reyes-Tenesaca; and one brother, Adan Reyes Flores.

Petronila was of the Catholic faith and was a hardworking woman who dedicated more than 30 years to sewing at Platt Luggage. She had a sharp mind and was known for always knowing when something was missing or out of place. She had a love for gardening, especially tending to her flower garden and roses. Petronila also loved to dance and enjoyed salsa dancing and would tear the dance floor up with her husband. Above all, she loved her family and found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her laughter, her joking spirit, her willingness to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, and being a hard worker.

She is survived by her daughter, Susana Sandoval-Cerna (Juan); two brothers, Bernardo Reyes Flores and Atanacio Reyes Flores; three grandchildren, Eddie Cerna (Brenda), Raul Cerna, and Alex Cerna; two great-grandchildren, Sofia Cerna and Gabriella Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Although services will be private, the family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and care shown during this time of grief.

Johnny Douglas Howell, 61, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Moses Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born on December 18, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Elizabeth Ellen Maxwell and the late Johnny Frank Howell.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew “Dusty” Howell; and sisters, Ronda Cook and Lora Frazier.

Johnny worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and had a heart for helping others. He loved trading, buying, selling, and swapping, and he especially enjoyed motorcycles and bluegrass music. Johnny loved to cook and eat, but above all, he treasured his family and had a special place in his heart for his beloved fur babies.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Jason D. Howell (Beth); sister, Jolene Harris (Timothy); brother, Timothy D. Howell (Gary Alley); brother-in-law, Victor “Radar” Cook; girlfriend, Tamatha Frazier; grandchildren, Christopher Howell, Joshua Howell, Caleb Howell, and Joseph Howell; two great-grandchildren; his beloved fur babies, Harley, Baby, Pepper, and Casper; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Fair Haven Memorial Park with Pastor Michael Howell officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of his mother.

Edwinna Marie Ward, 68, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on January 6, 1958, to the late Edwin Reel and Lillian Gwen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Adam Ward; and brothers, Mickey Reel, Tommy Reel, and Kenneth Reel.

Edwinna was of the Christian faith. She found a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed trips to the beach, but her greatest joy was in spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ricky Lee Ward; daughters, Janice Marie Turner, Kyleigh Coleman; sons, Robert Reel, Chad Coleman, Ross Coleman; brother, Edwin Reel; grandchildren, Nikki Richardson, Issac Shelton, Savannah Shelton, Alexis Coleman, Brooklyn Coleman, Gage Coleman, Lydia Coleman, Zachary Shelton, Gracie Ward, Chase Ward, Jasmine Fain, Cain Coleman; and great-grandchildren, Preston Coates, Julia Coates, Nova Lee Coates, Hunter Coates, Jasper Dalton, Zamira Dalton, A.J. Fain, Benjamin Fain, Ezekiel Shelton, Wyatt Kidd, and Muliani Janis.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Terry Dalton officiating.
