The library vote passed and so much for the Mastics, Moriches, Community Library! How long do you think it will take before there are three separate library districts? With three separate library directors making $200,000 each? How many civil service jobs will required for each district? Patronage patronage patronage.

The Truth About the “LIE-BRARY” Bond

On Tuesday, Dec. 10th, the taxpayers in the Tri-Hamlet will be asked to shoulder a new tax burden in the form of a $22,690,964 library bond plan that, for some reason, has been quietly been put together and even more silently promoted.

I mean, it’s logical to me, that something allegedly this “good” for the community would be “heralded” and “trumpeted” both near and far yet I’ve only seen two lonely lawn signs on display at the American Legion on the corner of Pawnee and Madison. Even the print ad in the Pennysaver didn’t note the cost of the bond but only that it would cost the taxpayers a paltry $7/month in taxes to run three libraries.

Well, let’s take a look at the proposal. The plan is to open two new library annexes and completely renovate the existing one adding 3,000 additional sq./ft. without increasing overall operational costs.

First off, you cannot “triple” the size of your operation without increasing your staffing etc. Staffing will be an “on-growing” payroll issue, certainly possibly and probably staffed with friends and family, at a cost of which is not included in the bond and will increase your taxes yearly (and the “circle goes round”).

One of the “satellite” libraries is by the “Little Red Schoolhouse” in Moriches and the other is the Old Village Hall on Neighborhood Rd. which was purchased by the library for around $870k.

Now I think $870k is a lot of money for a low-mid quality building considering it was originally purchased by the village at a “rip-off” price of $560k, had another $440k of taxpayer money dumped into it bringing the cost paid by Village residents up to 1 million. It was sold at auction for $440k when village dissolved and now the library has bought it for around $870k. Just before a blight study. If the library board waited until after the “Brookhaven Blight Study” was released the appraised value would have been considerably less. But the lie-brary didn’t wait for the study they rushed this through even when the people overwhelmingly voted in 2018 that we didn’t want to pay for a new library. Certainly one scenario for not waiting for the report could be those involved in the sale of the building would not have made their desired money. Taxpayers pay in the end AGAIN and (literally) the “circle goes round”

Look at another claim from their ad, “New Life and New Spirit” will be added to Neighborhood Rd. OK, where have we heard that before? The same claim was made about purchasing the village hall during our village debacle, remember? “Having Village Hall on Neighborhood Rd. will revitalize our downtown”. No, it didn’t. Neither will the library.

Why does this sound so familiar? Because the same people who brought you “the Village” are the same people promoting the Library Bond issue; self-proclaimed civic leader Mr. Frank Fugarino and former convicted Legislator and owner of the South Shore Press, Mr. Fred Towle. Fred was actively involved in the purchase and sale of village hall through all of it’s ownerships from the town to the village to the private investor to the library on. He actively supports, promotes and even sometimes elects members to the Library Board. And the “circle” goes “round”.

Mr. Fugarino, our community leader, told us our village would not raise taxes and we could pick and choose the services the village would offer and leave the Town of Brookhaven stuck with paying for services like our roads which was total baloney. Why should I believe him now when he tells me my new “library” tax will only be $7 a month?

Again I ask, “Why, if this is so beneficial to our community aren’t they proclaiming this “on high” and why is this being “silently marketed”?

On Tuesday Dec. 10th come out to vote between 7am and 9pm at the Mastics/Shirley Library and vote NO to the $22,690,964 Library Bond proposal

The Mastic Beach Village Board has filed a lawsuit to remove one of its members for allegedly sharing the results of confidential criminal investigations, recording private conversations and forwarding village emails.

On Monday, Village Attorney J. David Eldridge filed the petition against trustee Christopher Anderson, 33, with the Second Appellate Division of State New York Supreme Court in Brooklyn under section 36 of the Public Officers Law. That law specifically allows removal of elected officials from office.

“Mr. Anderson refused to take even minimal steps to protect the village and its residents, and instead, intentionally and repeatedly shared confidential and privileged legal and other documents and information with others,” the petition states. “(Anderson) knowingly gave unauthorized persons access to secured and critical village documents and information.”

The suit states that Anderson divulged “confidential criminal investigation results, litigation materials, strategy and highly confidential information and documents with others . . . including those who are currently subjects of multiple criminal investigations and with at least one plaintiff involved in a lawsuit against the village.”
The suit also says that Anderson secretly recorded conversations with Eldridge.

Anderson, who is campaigning for mayor in the March 21 village elections, said the accusations in the suit are false.

“It’s all lies,” Anderson said in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. “The whole board has turned against me. They’re out for blood and it’s affecting the taxpayers.”
He said he’s been thrown out of four village board executive session meetings on the accusation that he was recording the meetings with his fitness watch.
“The watch doesn’t record,” he said.

The suit further states that Anderson violated his oath of office by “repeatedly sharing, forwarding — and often actually posting online — private and privileged emails, communications and conversations had by and among the board members and their village counsel.”

Board members said Anderson has violated the public’s trust.

“The other petitioners and I . . . gave Mr. Anderson every opportunity to resolve this amicably and to restore integrity to board operations,” Mayor Maura Spery said in a statement. “Unfortunately, however, he resisted at every turn, and because of the enormous potential fiscal and legal liabilities his misconduct has caused the village, he left us with no choice but to move forward with a proceeding for his formal removal from office.”

Anderson was elected to the board in March of 2015. He said the suit was an effort to “smear” his campaign.

Last November, in a 1,922 to 1,215 vote, residents in the village approved a plan to disband their six-year-old municipality.

Once lived in the "beach" was a rat in the scat

Who weasels his way through the lean times and fat

One night Rat and friends walked out of a bar

And through beer-fogged eyes the did spy afar

"A car, a car we do spy afar as we all make our way from our favorite bar"

Upon closer inspection the rat did squeal, " This car is perfect let's start with the wheels!"

Off came the wheels with a clang and a thunk

And said the rat, "hurry up pop the hood and trunk!"

The cops showed up with their sirens a wailing

And knew that these rats they would soon be jailing

But the Rat in the Scat pulled the D.A. aside

And said, "Boss I will squeal if you just let me ride."

The judge threw the book at the rat's two best friends

Then sealed the rat's record for life and set him free in the end.
