Bayeux Embroidery Stitch

This is called the bayeux embroidery stitch which is good for covering a large area without using a lot of threads. The technique consists of using couching stitches on top of laid threads. You can also outline the shape with a stem stitch before adding the laid threads.

Visible Mending - patching from underneath

This hole in the sweatshirt is patched underneath with a similar material using a whip stitch. Before starting, I cleaned up all the frayed threads. Initially, I thought I could hold it in my hand while stitching, but I found that using a wooden darning mushroom provided a better surface to work on. I didn't use the elastic because the hole was larger; instead, I moved the fabric around as I worked on the mend, which turned out really well. In the final part of the video, I created a finishing knot. You can either cut away the extra fabric or stitch it down.
