SOU Sports Information Director Josh McDermott has added another award to his collection this week as he was recognized as the NAIA National SID of the year. In his 13th season on the Athletic staff at his alma mater Josh was unable to join us Wednesday on Tee It Up to take a bow so we brought Athletic Director Matt Sayre on to talk up Josh and get us an update on fall sports underway in Ashland.

The Southern Oregon Football team travels to Butte Montana this Saturday for a match with #3 ranked Montana Tech. The Raiders are averaging 502 yards and 36 points a game and will go up against an Oredigger defense that has produced 3 Frontier Conference defensive players of the week in 3 games including Christian Hansen who nabbed the NAIA National award. On his Wednesday update with Boomer Marshall and I Berk told us his squad got some good work done during a bye week and is ready to come out swinging at Tech.

Southern Oregon Football junior wide receiver Dawson Douglas had a career high 9 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown against Western Oregon in week 2 and is looking to build on that in this Saturdays road game at #3 Montana Tech. QB Dom Montiel has found multiple receivers in the first two games this year giving the Raiders plenty of options to attack the Orediggers defense with. Douglas has Head Coach Berk Brown and his dad David on the coaching staff at SOU as he did during his high school days at Crater. Dawson is ready for the Frontier Conference battles ahead. You can hear the Raiders live on The Ace this Saturday at noon from Montana.

The North Medford Black Tornado football team has bolted out of the gates in the 2026 season, opening with a 2-1 record and #3 6A power ranking including a 35-14 win on the road at #3 5A Wilsonville last Friday. Seniors Brady Patterson and Samson Vaelua joined us Monday on Tee It Up to talk about this senior class leading North back into contention and the excitement for the big games ahead with West Salem and Grants Pass at home and then Willamette on the road the next three weeks.

Ethan DeVore notched his third Southern Oregon Golf Championship Men's division title in 5 years by defeating Michael Leonard in this years 36 hole final. An early 6 up lead on the first 18 was erased by a Leonard come back but the Eagle Point product rallied back to win. His cousin Quincey Beyrouty has won 4 straight womens titles and this is the second year they've swept the top spots together. We caught up with Ethan Friday on Tee It Up to talk about the SOGC becoming a family affair of late!

After fighting past Francis Tiafoe in an all American men's US Open semi final Ben Shelton will try and become the first US man to win a major since 2003 when he squares off against Sasha Zverev Sunday. We caught up with Medford Hall of Famer Jonathan Stark Friday on Tee It Up and got some great insights on this current crop of US Men who are rising in the ATP world rankings.

After putting up 75 points in a 1-1 start to the 2026 season the Southern Oregon Football team is working through a bye week before a trip to Butte Montana to take on #5 Montana Tech on September 19. Head Coach Berk Brown joined us for our weekly update on Tee It Up today to break down the positive efforts from the home opening loss to D-2 Western Oregon and the work to be done to prepare for another Frontier Conference run ahead. Brown is excited for the run of top NAIA opponents over the next 7 games and the challenges that come with playing in one of the top conferences in the NAIA nation.

Cousins Quincy Beyrouty and Ethan DeVore are making the Southern Oregon Golf Championships at the Rogue Valley Country Club a family affair. The two swept the Men's and Women's titles for the second time in 4 years and now have 7 championships since 2022. Quincey is a former OIT standout who has tied three other women with 4 straight titles and again had to fight past Johnna Nealy on Monday in the 36 hole final. Quincy joined us on Tee It Up today for what has become an annual interview appearance. Great competition at a premier match play event keeps her coming back for more!

Intense drama and excitement in the home conference openers for the SOU Raider volleyball team last week. Up 2-0 vs Walla Walla the Raiders fought off 5 match points to win in the 5th set Friday. Down 2-0 to #12 Lewis and Clark State the home team fought off 5 match points to win another 5 setter. Seniors Tessa Zimmerman and Maya Watters joined us on Tee It Up today to recap the emotional home wins that set the stage for trips to #1 Eastern Oregon and #9 College of Idaho ahead.

Random Vandals racing teammates Derek DeBoer and Hampus Ericsson have been running with the leaders in the last 2 GT3 endurance races in Atlanta and Wisconsin. A tie-up took them out in Georgia while a faulty Turbo led to a 7th place finish at the end of August. Feels like a podium finish is coming!
