Wanted to share a great high school football playoff feature from last Friday on Tee It Up before the Oregon City at South Medford game. The playoff appearance was the third visit to Spiegelberg Stadium for Oregon City, the first coming in the 1962 when Danny Miles led a semifinal win. Two of Medford's sports icons were a part of that 1962 game as ball boys, BG Gould with the Pioneers and Scott Spiegelberg for the Tornado. 5 years later Beeg moved to Medford and the two have been friends ever since. Some great stories and historical notes on the Stadium in the interview, enjoy!

College athletes in football and softball Isaia and Kailee both worked with trainers and prioritized fitness from an early age which helped lead them into the profession. I Enjoyed getting to learn more about our managers and why Anytime Fitness was the right fit for them.

Local sports coverage has been a big part of our Athletics community for many years. It's why we launched The Ace. On Monday we got to meet Tyler Kinert, owner of Lost in the Trees Media. Tylers life long passion for sports and cameras was on full display this fall with the third year of The Standard tracking the North Medford football program each week with photos, video clips, and interviews with Tornado coaches, players, and fans. And just recently Tyler has joined forces with the Southern Oregon Sports Commission to expand his services covering events and teams. We got a chance to feature Tyler Monday on Tee It Up and learn more about Lost in the Trees.

The South Medford football team weathered the storm of a loaded September schedule and then shifted from survive to thrive in October. The Panthers have won 4 of their last 5 games including three in a row over Sprague, Sheldon, and last Friday West Salem for a 21-20 signature win of the season to date. Lineman Isa De LaTorre and RB/LB Wes Boyd continued our Black and Blue coverage in studio today. Isa has been a force in the trenches and Boyd has sparked the Panther run since returning from a pre season hamstring injury. The seniors told us they are hungry for a rivalry win over North to launch another November playoff run.

After winning the 6A lower bracket football title last November the North Medford football team has had to work through close calls and injuries to key players this fall. Yet still managed the spirit to rally in the closing minutes last Friday to notch their first win this season at South Salem. Head Coach Nathan Chin joined us Monday on The Ace to talk about keeping his team motivated after some close calls against GP, West Salem, and Wilsonville in the first seven weeks. And how proud he is of his club for hanging in there. The South Salem win will give the Tornado some strong wind in their sails going into the Black n Blue game Friday.

The South Medford football team has turned September setbacks into October success, winning 4 of their last 5 games going into Fridays Black n Blue showdown with North Medford. Coach Bill Singler joined us Monday on Tee It Up and told us the Panthers defensive unit has been the mainstay while the offense ramped up a punishing running game. South has more to play for rankings wise but Singler knows North will throw everything they have into the mix to try and derail South in the cross town game. (Photo credit Kris Henry)

The days grow shorter and blustery fall weather is upon us. Getting to be time to post up next to the fire with a good book. I've got one for you sports fans. "Scrolls of a Sports Scribe" is a two volume set of stories written in over half of century of sportswriting from Kerry Eggers. The OSU grad wrote for the Oregon Journal, Oregonian, and the Portland Tribune newspapers and continues to create content on his digital platform at kerryeggers.com. "Scrolls" is a compilation of features on a wide range of sports personalities, many from the Pacific Northwest, and events. Kerry joined Pete Belcastro and I Friday on Tee It Up Southern Oregon to tell us about how the project came together and highlight some of the 60 stories that are featured in the book. Due out soon and available on his website, what a great Holiday gift for the sports fans in your life.
