Well this summer has FLOWN by! Along with all of our gracious customers, we had to dodge wildfires and get the kiddos ready for school. The latest fun in the garage has been a doozy. I picked this 2011 KX450F up from a kid in Grand Junction last summer and it's been an epic path to restoration.
Between all the bits and bobs missing from buying it in boxes, there was clearly a large scale failure that lead to the teardown. During the rebuild I noticed metal shavings, and some larger flakes, but nothing too crazy, so I got everything reassembled and felt that the bike was running hot. After going through the screen and pump, I found a glitterbomb as well as chunks of gasket maker.
After cleaning out the screen and the oil pump, I reassembled and had zero oil pressure! Once again, I disassembled and found a split oil pump gear. With that part on order I hope to be completely done with this bike and to have it ready to rip before old man winter shows up.
