The City of Melbourne has been awarded $50,000 from the Florida Division of Historical Resources Abandoned African-American Cemeteries Grant Program to fund the installation of a fence to contain newly discovered graves, an interpretative sign, and a concrete viewing area.

The City of Melbourne’s Historic and Architectural Review Board (HARB) will hold a public workshop immediately after the next regular HARB meeting to gather ideas and input on the design and content of the interpretive sign.

The meeting will be held on November 19 in the City Council Chamber. It will start at 6 p.m., and the workshop should begin at or about 6:45 p.m.

Can you tell we are major Sears fans? When we saw this Sears cart for sale in Merritt Island, we couldn’t pass it up. The seller graciously donated it to us, and now, and now it’s rolling into the MTTS fleet at full speed! Big thanks to DriftZone of Merritt Island for holding it for us until we could make the drive up!

Two years ago, we spotted the corner of the Martha Hall Memorial plaque peeking out from the dirt and decided the garden deserved better. When we cleaned up the garden back then, it was just fixing the buried bricks and raising the plaque.

Today, we cleaned up the garden again, redefined the garden bed, and allowed the large tree to be rocking something new: donated lava rocks! After about an hour of working, the rain came down, but we were faster and completed the garden without getting too wet. Hopefully we have enough rocks to finish the other two memorial trees by Building 7.

One thing is for certain though, our members love these hands-on projects! Stick around to see more garden transformations!

We had a great time yesterday with Field Manor at their Fall Festival! Despite the rain, the drive up from Melbourne was very nice and the Homestead is huge! We met a lot of interested individuals, and although we mainly do work in Melbourne, we’re always willing to branch out to other communities and cities who need student historians. 😉

(We also got a very cool item from the Merritt Island Square Mall, but we need to do a bit of filming to reveal it first 😊)

We had a blast at Florida Institute of Technology’s Treat or Treat at Florida Tech event today! We had many visitors to our table, from kids who love typewriters, to another kid who knew everything about all four vintage items we brought along. Pete the Panther also made an appearance and took a photo with our 1963 yearbook. This is one of our favorite events and second time attending.
